Spring's colours.

The grass said, Spring is green.
The flowers said, Spring is yellow.
The (some type of bird.. not sure what LOL sorry) said, Spring is yellow.
Mama said, Spring is all types of colours. (ever changing)

My best go at it. Haha Oh and your writing is really nice and neat!!

Okay I need some help on my own: Is the following gramatically correct? (And did I use any words incorrectly?)

因为中国的汉朝和匈奴在战争,所以汉朝皇帝迪每个家要一个男孩去入伍。可是木兰的家没有儿子,所以她的爸爸要强迫去入伍。花木兰知道她的爸爸很老了,所以她决定当一男孩代她爸爸。

everything sounds really good actually. i only added what i thought would make your sentences flow better, but it's not really necessary. though instead of using 男孩, i would use 男生 just cos, i dunno in my mind 男孩 is like, a kid that's male lol & instead of 迪 i would maybe use 吩咐? but yeah. this is just my opinion though.

there's no like, direct translation cos it would sound weird, but if i were in a situation where someone's worried & i'm gonna say something to comfort her i would say, "别担心,不会有事的” which basically means, don't worry, nothing will happen.

btw i just found this thread it is so awesome!!! hahahha

mm for your sentence it dosent really flow at the 所以汉朝皇帝迪每个家要一个男孩去入伍 part, youre missing your verb i think it should be 所以汉朝(you got the zi wrong biggrin.gif) 帝命(missing verb i think?) 令每一家要以个男去入伍

for the 爸爸要强迫去入伍 i think you should change the 要to 被, it makes more sense.

i might just be picky here (sorry!!!) but i think you should use 装作instead of 当 here because the emphasis was that she was pretending to be a guy in her fathers place. and also the dai ti thing biggrin.gif

hope that helps biggrin.gif:D:D:D:D:D:D

Do Chinese have any respectful terms like the Koreans? (Hyung, oppa, etc)

Also could someone help me out with some sentences to use on the phone? Stuff like "What are your plans tonight?", "Who's going to be there?", "What time?" etc

The only things I know are wei and I'm not sure about these next 2 but "zen muo zhe" and "ga ma na" which are like "what's up?" and "what are you doing" ?

Thanks a bunch biggrin.gif

Chinese has a lot of respectful terms. For example, we have a bunch of them on how to address your relatives, depending on your relation to them. The word 您 (nin2) is a more formal version of 你 (ni3, you).

What are your plans tonight?
jin1 wan3 you3 shen2 me da3 suan4?
or: jin1 wan3 xiang3 zuo4 shen2 me? (what do you want to do tonight?)

What time?
ji3 dian3?

What are you doing?
(ni3) zai4 zuo4 shen2 me?

couldn't quite figure out what "zen muo zhe" means.

Ah I was told zen muo zhe was Beijing slang for what's up, but the "muo" was pretty much skipped or said really fast.

Thanks for that btw! My pinyin is practically non-existent though so I'll have to refer to some charts on how to pronounce those.

Heyy I was wondering if it's possible to say "你管了你的孩子很好" or "你对你的孩子管了很好"?

Translation --> You disciplined your children well.

If not, may I ask how you would say it? happy.gif;; Thanks!

@ pentagram -I don't use a program, but I use this website and I've found it to be very helpful. =)

http://www.nciku.com/

Hope it can help you in some way happy.gif;

Thank you Fragment and Cottonsalisakii for the corrections and suggestions!

Would it make sense if I added 因为古老中国的汉朝和匈奴在战争 into the sentence? I'm trying to say ' Ancient China '. Or is there another way to say that?

And I have a feeling these segments sound a little akward. laugh.gif

古老中国女孩子少有学校生活 因为她们从小的侍候会学家庭家务。但是,因为花木兰的爸爸以前是一位很尊敬的前辈,所以她们的家有钱待一个老师来和木兰练习。除了学习以外,木兰也会 照顾她家庭动物和做家庭家务。

and

当战争在中国的汉朝和匈奴之间完了,皇帝提供了花木兰一个工作在皇宫,但是她决定不接受皇帝提的工作。

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

i think it should be 你把你(的)管教得很好 which is like you have disciplined your children very well. the de is optional because either way its fine? with the de its more formal...

youre welcome biggrin.gif

haha i'm not sure about the 古老 thing but it sounds a bit unneccessary to me. i think its the wrong noun but im not sure about that either. it would make more sense if you referred to the dynasty it happened in like 中国唐朝时代 or something same for your next sentence

ah i figured what word to use already but for your sentence the structure is all jumbled up!!! i'm not really sure how to rephrase it using your words but if i were to change some zi it would be easier @_@ i hope it helps!

在中国古代时候,很少女生有机会上学,他们从小的任务是做家务(i hope i didnt take away your meaning!! i wasnt very sure for the dai hou part) 但是,由于花木兰是来自尊敬的家庭, 他的家庭有权力请一个老师教木兰。除了学习以外,木兰也会照顾他家的动物和做家务。

i'm not sure how to interpret the coloured part it could be 有钱 or 有机会 i hope im not changing your sentences too much!!! and hope you understand it ^^

what is the difference between 戀愛 and 愛? and what other prefixes are commonly associated with '愛'? for example i know there's 'choh ngoi' for first love - sorry, don't know the mandarin way to say it and the characters :Z

the question might sound a bit strange, but i would really appreciate it. thank you! smile.gif

kiochi 恋爱 is love between couples.. aka romantic love. 爱 can be love between anything, like.. i love my dog.. or i love to eat cheese.

心爱 - beloved 亲爱 - dear (like in a letter)
疼爱 - like.. doting on someone 宠爱 - dote on/spoil kinda
热爱 - "passionately" loving, like a hobby or your country..
相爱 - love each other

here are some w/ 恋
初恋 - first love
暗恋 - secretly loving someone
单恋 - one-sided love aka you love someone.. but they don't love you sad.gif
there are a lot more...

Can someone translate "Billie", please? I saw the name in a graphic on the About page (where my Chinese teacher would tell us to get our Chinese names), but I don't know how to type it. Characters & pinyin, please. Thank you!

I'm a female, by the way. I saw on that same page (About.com) there was a name for male and female. I don't know if that'll affect it, but yeah... :3 *moving on*
