Whoops, forgot to say that there should be a "de" at the end (just flows better). =]

But if you wanna get really technical there's the word 悼念 to use as well...

about the difference, it's subtle, so I'm pretty sure that "xiang", "xiangnian"and "huainian" are interchangable in conversations, but when written down I would just use 懷念or 悼念.

"Xiang" feels like being used on people who are still alive (lovers, living family), while "huainian" is always used on someone who no longer exists.

^I talk so much when I'm tired :x

In the black box above- "The true way of curing from the very root of the problem(sickness) towards the path of health is only with healthy living from when you're a child."

Title: Six,A must read for healthy children

Care for and love life from a young age

According to a report from Central TV Station, diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol are showing signs of affecting people of younger ages,Chinese physicians who conduct body checkups found that the children who are diagnosed with such diseases are around the age of 10.

Why is it that when our economy develops, our wealth increase and our quality of life improves, people are dying younger? Some people feel that the reason for the high numbers in heart and brain diseases, cancer and diabetes is economic development and the high quality of life.Wrong, totally wrong!

Research indicates: The increase in these diseases is not caused by the improvement of the material culture but the lack of spiritual culture and the insufficient knowledge on our health. If we could improve our knowledge on health and hygiene, then we would be able to become healthier in times of economic development and not increase the amount of sickness.

So long as we start advocating a healthy lifestyle starting from the younger age groups. The spring of health will always accompany us,so in order to prevent 'adult diseases',the child stage is the first stage.虽然遗(It cuts off here from your passage but I think the next word should be 传...So,it would translate to "Although hereditary....").

Are you typing in traditional Chinese or the simplied one? Because there is a difference in terms of explaining the word.

The person who wrote this passage wrote it in Hong Kong slang. If you read it in Cantonese, then it will make more sense. Anyways this passage says:

This year summer break isn't as memorable as last year. Everyone around me is becoming more and more like strangers. This makes my heart hurts. I am a type of person that can't keep a good relationship with others, including love relationships. I really don't want it to be like this. I will try to change myself these coming days, but I really want people to take the time to get know me first before they make a judgement of what type of a person I am.

There you go. biggrin.gif

can someone explain how to use 著and provide a few example sentences (plus translations) please? smile.gif

This word has a few meanings and has different ways of reading depending on the context.

1) The most common is the Englsh equivalent of -ing to indicate the process of something going on and it is read as zhe.

Example: 媽媽抱著弟弟 ma1 ma bao4 zhe di4 di Mom is carrying younger brother.小明吃著麵包 xiao3 ming2 chi1 zhe mian4 bao1 Xiao Ming is eating bread.

2) Another meaning is usually used with the word 穿 chuan1 --> 穿著 chuan1 zhuo2 which means something like the way someone dresses.

Example: 他的穿著真老土 ta1 de chuan1 zhuo2 zhen1 lao2 tu3 The way he dresses is really old fashioned.

But in a different context, the same 2 words 穿著 can be read as chuan1 zhe (see 1).
An example would be 她穿著漂亮的禮服 ta1 chuan1 zhe piao4 liang4 de li3 fu2 She is wearing a beautiful gown.

3) The word can also be read as zhao2 and is usually used as 睡著 shui4 zhao2 to fall asleep and 著火 zhao2 huo3 to catch fire as well as 著涼 zhao2 liang2 to catch a cold.

Example: 小明在沙發上睡著了 xiao3 ming2 zai4 sha1 fa1 shang4 shui4 zhao2 le Xiao Ming fell alseep on the sofa.小明的家著火了 xiao3 ming2 de jia1 zhao2 huo3 le Xiao Ming's house is on fire. 小明著涼了 xiao3 ming2 zhao2 liang2 le Xiao Ming caught a cold.

Again 睡著 can also be used in the context of no.1 and be read as shui4 zhe.
Example: 沙發上睡著一個人 sha1 fa1 shang4 shui4 zhe yi2 ge4 ren2 There is a person sleeping on the sofa.

4) It can also be read as zhao1 and it usually used as 著數 zhao1 shu4 the moves in chess or martial arts, trick or scheme. It can also be written as 招數 zhao1 shu4 and has the same meaning. Both can be used.

Example: 武術的著數/招數有很多 wu3 shu4 de zhao1 shu4 you3 hen3 duo1 There are many moves in martial arts.

5) 著 can also be read as zhu4.It is usually used as 著名 zhu4 ming2 famous/well-known/noted/celebrated

Example: 小籠包是上海著名的美食 xiao3 long2 bao1 shi4 shang4 hai3 zhu4 ming2 de mei3 shi2 Xiao Long Bao is a famous delicacy of Shanghai.

This last example is the reason why I asked if you wrote in traditional or simple chinese. For the first 4 examples,著 is traditional Chinese while 着 is the simple chinese form.Whereas for this last example,it is written 著 whether in simple or traditional chinese.
