My family is going camping on the 27th and they've planned this since last month, and since last month I already told them that I'm not going with them and they're okay with that. Last week I slept on the streets in downtown for one night for the MMVA's wristband lineup with my friends, since then I'm definitely not going to sleep out again.

My mom is okay with me not going with them, but they don't want me staying home alone. She wants my grandma to sleepover at the house with me, but I want to stay home alone to have a lil party with my friends. She said it's okay if my friends sleepover here with my grandma, but I think that we're gonna be kinda loud..My mom thinks something is going to happen to me while they aren't here, like the stove is gonna go on fire, or something. I mean I slept in downtown where there was like 2000 people sleeping out and it's dangerous. Nothing happened, I'm pretty sure that I'll be okay sleeping at home.

How do I convince my mom that I can stay home alone and I'll be fine? Oh yeah, and I'm 16 years old.

If I were in your shoes I would tell her the truth.

You are 16 years old, in many states that means you are responsible enough to drive a vehicle, and you will be an adult in 2 years. I think at 16 you should be responsible enough to stay home alone for a short period of time. Also, it's a good idea to mention that you want to use this time to relax rather than having your grandmother around.

BUT, if you are dishonest and screw up, don't expect another shot for a while.

Good Luck, best wishes.

Maybe the reason why she doesn't want you staying home alone is that she's afraid you're going to throw a party.

Your mom is just worried about something going wrong and even if you can prove that you are responsible enough to be home alone for awhile, that doesn't mean accidents will never happen (or creeps wandering around your neighborhood). Considering how you are only having a sleepover, it shouldn't be too loud? If anything, let your friends go to your house earlier in the day so that by night, most of you will be tired and will not be so loud and energetic anymore. Or you can sleep downstairs in the basement (or somewhere far away from where your grandmother is sleeping).

just give your mum that piece of mind by letting your grandma stay over.

if things run smoothly w/ your grandma there, w/ no mishaps, then next time you'll probably be able to stay home alone. plus, you're only 16.
