Do consider this:
Community College is by FAR cheaper.
You can have a job (Jobs teach life lessons that you won't get in college)
Usually more flexible
Also: You can always go to community college for a year, retake SAT's and reapply.
Regardless, don't look down on things. Life is a journey with many paths.

Don't you need to stay 2 years in order to transfer? life's too short.

No, you need to do at least two years to get an AA, but if you get your grades and test scores up you can apply again the year after highschool.

that sounded so corny but your question asked about brightness/darkness.
anyway, what i'm saying is to be optimistic. there's opportunities to make friends and have fun everywhere. it's true that it may be easier at a university where you dorm and whatnot, but it's not a given. I know a handful of people who pretty much stuck to him/herself or their high school friends in college. i ended up here at my local community college and surprisingly made plenty of friends, considering how busy I am with work and whatnot.
besides, the first year of college goes by real fast. after that you apply and then get by your second year and you're out. if you're unsure of your major or are pre-med or something, it may take you 3 years. if you're good to go with summer course credits/AP/IB credits and whatnot, you can apply the fall you start community college and be out within 1 year. it really just depends on your major and the college you're aiming for.

Seriously, I think you are glamorizing universities and colleges way too much.
Who says that those people will even have a social life? Or study with joy lol?
In order to get into a decent college (if that's what you're aiming for), you're going to have to not only reach for good grades but maintain them.
So unless these people you are talking about are geniuses who only have to stare at something once to remember it.
I think that they're going to be studying their butts off trying to keep their grades up.
And I highly doubt that just because you dorm or go to a regular college, it will instantly gain you new friends.
Or that amazing social life/college experience that you're talking about.
Right now I think your expectations are pretty much clouding every positive aspect of community college.
There are plenty of opportunities that will come your way and you are making a piece of sand become a huge mountain.
It's all in your mind and if you honestly DON'T want to go to community college, you should start working towards improving your grades.
Sorry if I sounded harsh, but my intentions aren't to be harsh, I'm trying to help you figure things out. xP

Exactly
For example.
I went to Boys' State. I really didn't want to... I was going to ask the alternate to go for me..
I was picked to go to Washington D.C. to meet the President.
Never give up on an opportunity, and never ever fail to see the silver lining
It is not the end of the world. You must work hard of course, but there will be opportunities you may not have imagined. Like an earlier poster said, you can transfer to top notch schools like USC. I know a lot of people on this forum have transfered to Berkley, UCLA, UCSD etc.
Good luck.

Why has highschool been a pain? If it's because you don't like studying, community college will help transition you from high school to uni.
Ok, I got accepted into 4 really good universities across the country but decided to go to comm. coll. first because they gave me my first two years of study free. they offer really good scholarships because they want smart people to give their schools a chance. so next year, get your grades up and that could be you...
because my best friend did the opposite, he went straight to 4 yr uni and ended up flunking out. all he did was party and work, studying was on the backburner...now he kinda looks at me and says i definitely made the right choice.
College is what you make of it, not where you go, ok? And you can stay in the dorms when you transfer, but trust me, those dorms are gonna SUCK lol you'll be so excited to get an apartment...and just because you go to comm coll doesn't mean you can't go over to the 4yr campus and party w/everyone, I did it all the time! ; )

I agree, if you get to 4yr uni and don't like it, you'll be dying to go back to comm coll...that's what I'm doing this in the fall/spring! lol I hated the uni I transferred to, so i'm going to spend a yr at comm coll and apply to 3 different unis in January

You're right. After I transferred from comm coll to uni, I no longer had my campus job, my friends...I had to start all over and that wasn't fun! I transferred to a uni that totally wasn't right for me, I didn't have any real friends there, never got a campus job, didn't like their programs of study...I joined a couple fun clubs, but that was as far as the "joy" went lol
College is definitely what you make of it...I do think that you should attend a school that has an environment that fits your personality, but don't judge a school by ideals, go on a tour of the school, talk to students who attend, get the facts!

There's no such thing as "regular college" college is college. Don't just group community college with a certain group of people and universities with another group of people..
I go to a community college... and that's only because my parents cant pay for me to go to a UC..
Golden 2 years? You know.. a college is a college you'll experience it no matter what.. I have friends who just party everyday even though they go to a community college. Yeah, you won't experience dorming, but you know you can just move into an apartment and get a roommate and *bam* there's your "dorm"
My cousin actually did that and he enjoyed it, up until his parents found out his roommates were drinking and just partying.
I know a couple of people who went from UC -> community college.
Some just get kicked out (because of grades) others just drop out because of tuition (tuition is freakin expensive).
You know, a college is a college. You make it sound like your life's going to end if you go to a two year college.. just enjoy your college life.
Oh by the way 2 years isn't that long, I feel like it just passed by so fast (:
threecharles: Really?... I went to my counselor and she told me that SJSU would most likely reject me because I only had my GE's done... She told me that I could have gotten accepted if there weren't any budget cuts. But because California's budget cuts, getting into universities/states are getting harder & just finishing my GE's wouldn't guarantee my acceptance to SJSU..
