OMG, Thanks for reminding me to check the website for the books! xD; Mm, and regarding your question: I'm not really sure. You might actually need to get both, since it says study aid instead of optional.
Also, I'm a bit freaked about my first quarter classes... Could anybody who's taken any of these classes give me any feedback about them? I'd greatly appreciate it. My classes are:
EWRT 1A with Howland S [I just mainly want to know the difficulty level or how many essays there are...]
Math 1B with Bourgoub H [Most nervous for this one... Does anyone know the general area of Calculus the class starts off at? I kinda let my brain rot this summer so yeah... >_>]
Psychology 1 with Hassett S [I'm under the assumption I HAVE to buy the package for the class from the De Anza website... or is that not true? And how much writing should I expect from the class?]

blahhhh crapp i really i hope we dont need both cause i just returned the book. i know for math, math 1a is on the derivative, math 1b is on the integral, and math 1c is on various analytic geometry?

EWRT 1A, I'm not familiar with professor,O and the English professor try to make all the classes have the same content.( there's lost of essay done in that class,(let's say a weekly basis) and you'll end up with portfolio of essays and the final or last project is 10 page research paper.
Math 1B not sure where it starts off but most teachers will review stuff for ya.but I had friends that had Bourgoub and they didn't like him because he didn't teach straight out of the text and taught his version of doing things... but anyways xD I think any teacher is better than Mosh.. but eventually you'll take him if you go any higher in math. Mosh is so insane it's like going to 4 year, but then again that's a good thing
Psychology 1- I waited for the 1st day and the teacher didn't recommend buying the package. Depends on the teacher how much writing you do. There's some teachers that do 4 papers and mid term and final that's mutiple choice. and some teachers want you do written assignments on a weekly basis...

There are 30 basic-intermediate precalc questions. Depending on the number you have correct, you will be placed in the following classes:
9 out of 30 - 49A
15 out of 30 - 48B
20 out of 30 - Calc 1A
There might be a few problems that you won't know how to solve, but if you know the basics, you'll at least get 10 correct!

Ahh, okay that's somewhat a relief. I don't remember integrals that well, but I've done them before at least. Thanks!

Sighhhhh, I hate writing so much since I'm so bad at itttt. Definitely not looking forward to all the essays... D: Yeah, the reviews for Bourgoub were somewhat negative so I was kinda ehhh about it. I'll just have to wait and see what I personally think of him when I get to the class I guess. Thanks for the Psychology tip and feedback!

i heard you can do that. there will probably be a lot of people who end up being late and will dropped from the class and you can get an add code from the teacher if you get a space.

and if you try to add in a class on the 2nd or 3rd day you might be denied if you weren't there on the first day. so show up on first day ^___~ (that's why you see tons of ppl trying to add on the first day) I

#1: Which parking garage should i park in? I remember for the orientation i just parked in lot C since there weren't any cars. But there's probably gnna be a bunch of cars tomorrow=\
#2: How long does it usually take to find a spot on the first day of school?
I'm actually thinking about leaving at 5:30 in the morning and drive to De Anza(i live in Fremont) and leaving myself around 2 hours to find a parking spot, but i doubt it'd take THAT long to find a parking spot (my class starts at 8:30)

Late reply, but I would park in Stellling Garage (parking structure next to the tennis court and track) because there are more bigger parking spaces. Flint Garage is big since it's 4 stories, but last time I parked there, there were a lot of compact spaces and a lot of people who speed. I mean there are people who speed in Stelling too, but it's less than Flint. AVOID PARKING LOT C AT ALL COST!!! Especially during busy times like 8 am - 2 PM since the parking spaces are HORRIBLE. There isn't enough space to back out unless you park your car backwards.
Finding a parking spot on the first day is hit or miss depending where you go. I always park in Stelling Garage, but when I came to school around 8 AM, I was really surprised how packed it was. I mean usually first day of the quarter around that time there are less cars, but today was wow...
This is my 2nd year at De Anza and there are 2x as many students this year... A lot of students fresh out of high school are doing the 2 year transfer plan at community colleges now since the whole economy situation. When I was a freshman, there weren't that many students like this year, which means it's going to be very hard to get the classes you want... Hopefully I will get early pick for next quarter registration since I have a nice amount of units racked up, or possibly join a club or sport (they get first pick too).

Since my math professor cancelled her course this quarter, i only have classes on Monday and Wednesday.
I wish I could've transferred in 2 years like I originally planned (this is my 3rd and final year), but because of poor math/english placement results, I had to start from the lower classes.

I KNOW... I left the campus around 12:40 thinking the traffic died down, but when I exited the garage, I saw a crap load of cars still. There were 2 ways to leaving the campus, I usually exit the way I always do, but somehow one of the police officers or De Anza staff put up a sign that said "Exit here" with an arrow. In my mind, I knew that wasn't the only exit, but my body just made a right turn. Which ended up being a bad idea because there was a looooong line of cars trying to exit. FAIL

That sucks... I remember having class at 10:30 AM back in fall 08 and parking was pretty hard to find, but about 2-3 weeks into the quarter, it was easier since people drop. Yeah the whole "2 year transfer plan" only works if you're really lucky in getting the classes you want. I was an idiot and only took 10 units in fall 08 as a freshman... but I've been making it up by taking 16 to 18 units each quarter now.
Oh, forgot to add, they added some shade ceilings for the outside parking lot C, which is great since there are times where Stelling would be packed and I would be forced to park outside in the blazing heat...
