Okay, so I'm asking this question because I want to give an American friend (who loves rice) a rice cooker. She complains that her Target brand one sucks and it burns her rice (no duh). I'm so tempted to get one of those fancy 100 buttons ones that H-mart sells for like an arm and a leg sweatingbullets.gif (well obviously I will try to find better deals elsewhere). But then reading on Amazon, some people complain that these eat up so much more electricity, are confusing to use, and some take a long time to cook.

We've had our old Tiger one for over 10 yrs and we love the rice it makes. But I ate from my cousin's newer fancy one and I swear her rice tasted better! I'm mainly interested in knowing your choice between a regular circular pot or the newer oval style one (what brand you use, how you like it, is it worth it to spend loads more on the newer kind). You're welcome to discuss the other choices though happy.gif

Old Asian style (circular, one button, cook/warm settings):

New Asian style (oval-ish, gazillion buttons, rice/porridge/steam/does your homework):

American style (glass top, burns your rice):

Clay pot (old fashion goodness):

Bamboo rice worth the trouble?:

I bought mine from Wal-Mart, it is just like the old Asian style one. It does the job so I can't complain about it/

Lol'd at Pol2ns7al2
I tried making rice in a pot at my dad's house and failed miserably. The rice was soooo black. I now know why they made rice cookers.

haha the old asian one is the exact same one I have <3 from when I lived in Japan. I's over 9 years old and works perfectly ^^

The American ones suck. fo sho. The new ones look nice but I don't need another rice cooker~the old one works fine so I never thought about it.

Hahaha, I like the old fashion onees better (I really do because they're small and BETTER) but my Dad bought home something that looked like a vacuum cleaner...realized that it was a rice cooker when it stood "cook" instead of "on" so yeah I use an Asian brand new style.
