If you were thinking about getting it, just call up some insurance companies and get a quote. That's the easiest way to determine whether it will be more or not.

Just wondering, what car do you have insured right now? There's a good chance it will go up but I actually wonder if they consider a 4 door car a sports car.

why would they not consider a sports car if it has 4 doors? the rx-8 technically has 4 doors, but you'd prolly classify that as a sports car. doing that to the 2.5 RS would also mean evo drivers would have this problem too, right? o.O

As for owning the Echo, your insurance will most likely go up.

If they have a bad record of drivers with the 2.5s your insurance might go up. From a Toyota Echo, I would say almost any car you get to replace it would have higher insurance rates.

My boyfriend and I were talking and he said that if I were to get a subaru impreza 2.5 my insurance would be higher b/c it's technically a sports car. Is that true?
2.5 is NOT a sports car. if a broker tells you it is, he/she is full of it; that car is a sedan, designed to be economical, efficient and practical.
sports cars are the opposite.
-economy? what's that mean?
-efficient? yah...right..
-practical? as if..
whether or not your premiums go up, will likely depend on your driving record; and i don't know what you're currently driving. just call around and get some quotes.

Are you talking about the 2006 models? If so, both the regular RS and turbo models are 2.5L engines.
So it really depends which model you're talking about, the turboed or non-turboed. I honestly don't know what insurance classifies the RS model at, but since I have a Wrx, insurance classifies it as a "sports car". It's pretty ghey if you ask me
I'm 25, have no tickets, accidents, or violations, I get quoted for roughly $2800 per 6 months for full coverage:
Liability 250k/500k
Property Damage 100k
500 Deductible comprehensive/collision
To keep my premiums lower, they insured me under my mom's car and her under my car. My insurance is still high though $1100 per 6 months

Wow...I wonder if you could get a better quote elsewhere...cause that's a lot, even under your mom. I'm paying $900 per 6 months, but I've had two tickets and this is with a G35. I'm 24 right now so I don't get the discount you get at 25. Originally, Progressive had quoted me for like $1300 per 6 months, so I called around.
