ok well i know hives itch and all. well the thing is i just started taking birth control pills for the first time on monday. and i guess these 'mosquito bites' started on tuesday ... and well they itch and look exactly like mosquito bites. it helps when i put anti itching ointment on them. i thought they were bites cause i was outside after rainy weather. and it's been raining all this week so i thought the mosquitoes were just feasting or whatever. and i keep on getting them .. ALL over my body. i dont recall eating anything i havent eaten before ... and its so weird cause im the only one getting these 'bites' ... and htey randomly appear. i even got some on my eyelids ... and how the hell wouldnt i know that there was a mosquito there????
so the question is .. am i allergic to birth control pills? what should i do?

What are the possible side effects of my birth control pills?
* If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking your birth control pills and seek emergency medical attention:
o an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
o a blood clot in the lung (shortness of breath or pain in the chest);
o a blood clot in an arm or leg (pain, redness, swelling, or numbness of an arm or leg);
o high blood pressure (severe headache, flushing, blurred vision); or
o liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue).

Actually a bad allergic reaction would be one of the biggest reasons to immediately stop. Remember that this is one brand of birth control ~ this isn't a pill that is keeping the OP's heart beating;nor is it antibiotics treating a serious sickness. A bad reaction with birth control pill should immediately lead to "discontinuing its usage" then finding another brand of birth control pill with a different company.
Well that is - if it is the bc pills causing the hives.

there is no proof that BCP is causing her allergic reaction (we don't even know if it's an allergic reaction!). correlation does not equal causation.
to the OP - if you're that concerned, contact your doctor's offfice. even if it's afterhours, there will ALWAYS be someone you will be able to speak with via on-call clinician/physician. that person will be licensed and qualified to advise you what to do - unlike the majority of people on this forum.
edited to add:
even if you do happen to have an MD/DO, NOONE has the authority to tell someone else on here to go against their doctor's orders unless you have actually seen their med history and asked the proper qualifying questions!

Strong response!
I still stand by the fact that she is taking birth control pills for most like 1 of two reasons.
For acne prevention or to prevent pregnancy.
Stopping birth control pills would not in any way jeopardize her health and of course the first thing the op should do is speak with their physician. I don't see why including common sense and repeating what I and others have said is necessary to reinforce your message though. Your commentary is circular.
You do not have to see someones medical history to give them advice that people learn and study in sex ed and human biology courses. Nor do you need to be a MD or see medical history to read what is on warning labels. The birth control pills are not treating any health problem. They were and are designed to prevent pregnancy, this medical history nonsense and demands that only their personal physician can give advice that any educated adult would give makes this conversation ridiculous and so I'm withdrawing from your flamewar challenge.
Pregnancy prevention does not and will never equal "treatment of a health problem such as cancer, diabetes, epilepsy etc" any brief study of diseases and health would have made this clear.
But allow me to refer you to post #2.

As noted in earlier post ~ along with the fact they should be consulting with their doctor or whomever gave them the birth control (community group) etc for a switch in BC pills if it is found to be the cause of the allergic reaction.

the point is, posters without medical degrees, not only in this thread, but in this entire sub-forum, are doling out medical advice to unassuming/naive kids. perhaps my post was "strong" but it still stands - noone has the authority to tell someone else to go against their doctor's orders without having the right qualifications.
btw - the only person legally allowed to hand out RXs are licensed doctors.
