Hi! So, I listen to music from all over the world. Okay, not ALL over, but compared to most people that I am associated with, my music covers a lot of different languages: English (American, Canadian, AND British), Korean, Japanese, German, French, Hebrew, and a few African languages. Obviously, and correct me if I'm wrong (but kindly, please!), some of these languages are ones that most people don't listen to, in terms of music.

Even in my Church, which is 98% Korean (with two or three Chinese members), I'm the only, and I really mean ONLY one (well, except for my sister, since she lives with me and is forced to hear what I listen to just like I know what she listens to) who knows bands such as Huckleberry Finn and MOT. Granted, they're not mainstream, and you really have to do your research to find their music in the first place. When I introduced Huckleberry Finn to one of the people at my Church, he was like, "I've lived in Korea for all my life except the last three years, and I've never heard of them. You've been in America all your life - how did you discover them?"
Huckleberry Finn
사막 (Samak)
불안한 영혼 (Anguished Soul)
MOT
Cold Blood

Also, a year ago, I discovered a man by the name of Habib Koité. He is a Malian singer from Mali, Africa, known internationally, but obviously not MAINSTREAM. At least, not in America, I don't think. He's AMAZING, and I think I've met ONE person who also knew who he was.
Takamba
Kanawa
I couldn't find a good quality one of "Baro", my absolute favourite song by him!!! sad.gif

And just recently, like a week ago, I discovered, not by accident, an Israeli singer who collaborates with over 70 musicians globally, mainly Ethiopian, and other African countries, Indian, Middle East... Anyway, his name is Idan Raichel and his collaboration is called The Idan Raichel Project. Their songs are BEAUTIFUL. But I doubt very many people (that I know) have heard of him. sad.gif
Bo'ee (Come)
Mai Nahar (River Waters)
Mima'amakim (Out of the Depths) So beautiful!!!

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you guys have similar experiences. And if possible, post links to a song!!! I want to hear them, I'm always open to trying new music! smile.gif

I think the majority of us here listen to music that is not well known where we live. Since I think the majority of the users here are outside of asia.

But in terms of a not well known artist, I think those are kind of hard to come by because, at least in my case I listen to a lot of, Italian, Hebrew, Turkish, Arabic, and Spanish but I can't say that a lot of them aren't well known in their countries, because too be honest majority of them are pretty mainstream. It's hard being in America and only really being able to comprehend English and Italian, and search for all types of music. I have been lucky enough to find some Italian blogs with indie music though, although people's take on what indie actually is, can be a bit off so I don't really know how accurate of a description that is. But yeah, I have had the same experience you did with some Italian friends because I was listening to bands they had never heard of.

LOL, by "not well-known", I meant outside of their country, or just in your circle of friends, even. smile.gif

Well then, that's probably going to be even more people since this is a korean pop site after all. Because I know majority of people in countries where English is mainly spoken, don't generally like to listen to music in languages they don't understand.

Yep. Just look at my last.fm lol.
Lots of Japanese artists, some Korean, and a teensy bit of French & Russian thrown into the mix.
