Hello fellow soompiers,
This question is asked for an English course. To you, what are the qualities in which it makes the book a fiction?
Thank you for even clicking and helping. =D
(I know it sounds like a stupid question... but I need details on what really makes a fiction. They can say that it's made up but how about on a basis that they took real-life events of others into the story? If you have read Memoirs of a Geisha, it is actually based off the life of a geisha named Mineko Iwasaki)
some of the ideas so far:
setting
characters
events (beginning,climax, resolution)
etc?
Thank you for the help!

A work of fiction is one that is made up entirely of the author's own ideas, such as characters, setting, etc.
Whereas non-fiction is based on fact.

^ But technically, fictions are based on facts too.
They just use the facts and integrate it into their story.
Um, maybe fiction is based on fact, while non-fiction is a factual account presented as real?

-can be based off of a real story
-ideas/characters/details are all made up by author
