im a soph and in ap euro today, we were talking about the ap exams
its not mandatory to take the exams at my school.
Its $84 to take it, but a lot of schools dont give credit unless you score a 5.
so if you take it and get a 4, you wont get credit for it. some schools dont even give credit for 5's. (like john hopkins. it doesnt give creds for humanities)
so is it worth taking the exam?

you have a long road ahead of you before you need to start thinking about getting credit at colleges...take the test and get a 5 because colleges will want to see your scores

well since AP classes are college-level classes, colleges look at the AP Exam kind of as a final exam (even though it is completely optional and won't count as part of your grade). however, if you don't take the test, colleges will wonder why because the intent of taking an AP class is to take the test in May. it's just expected by colleges. I'd definitely take the test if I think I can pass. besides, some colleges offer credit even if you pass with a 3.

I think you ought to, even if you might not get a 5. Colleges like to see that you have taken it and gotten a 3 than not taken it at all. (Well, from my understanding, anyway. Please correct me if I am wrong)

my teacher has said many times that colleges would prefer that you try to sign up for AP exams rather than not trying at all.

i think that colleges think.. if he/she can get an A in a college-level class, then why wouldn't he/she want to take the exam with it?

it's expensive, but if you have reduced lunch and everything, then it's only 5bucks. that's my situation anyway =].
so we'll just let them hate
cause they can't stop us babe

It's true that a lot of colleges (like the big universities) don't give credit for AP classes. But if AP courses are offerred at your school you should take them. Colleges want to see that you're challenging yourself along with your getting good grades.
Even if the college doesn't give you credit, a lot of the time you'll be able to at least get placement in a more advanced course. You'll probably get to skip the intro courses if you take enough AP's.

dude, take it. you did that whole class so you might as well sign up and study your a$$ off and hopefully get a 5. it'll just look better if you take it and get a 4 or 5 than if you don't even bother. maybe even if you get a 3.

you may not get college credit for it but
1) it might help get into college where you want
2) you might be able to skip so you're not covering all the same material again..though i dunno about for ap euro.

in my case i don't even have that choice. i'm required to take them to get even hs credit for my ap classes. but i would take them anyway.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

Most kids aren't taking the exams for credit -- they're taking it for the score. Colleges see what scores you get on the AP exams.. it would be a complete waste not to take the exam.

I think that by just taking the class colleges will see that you have challenged yourself through a course that is supposed to dipict a college level class. By taking the exam, it further demonstrates your ability. So study and do well with class grades as well as the exam and no matter if the college accepts a 5 as credit or not--you have shown how capable you are.

well the people i know that are in college keep telling me "pass your AP exams. you will save so much time and money not having to take classes you don't need."

so i think they're worth it if you pass haha. otherwise, $84 to fail, woohoo. you SHOULD take it though cuz the whole point of an AP class is to take that AP exam plus colleges would want to see your score.

i think so, i got credits going into college, which allows me to double major without having to kill myself. I know people who are graduating a full semester or even year because of AP and summer classes. So it'll save you at the very least time when you're in college.

You should go for it. Plenty of schools will give you credit for a score below a 5.

I think u should take the test too happy.gif. My school requires everyone who takes AP classes to take the exam in May.. I don't remember their exact reasoning though.

You should definitely take it. It's the whole point of taking that year long class. Besides, colleges almost treat it as a given that people who take AP classes will take the AP exams. They might not give you credit for it, but it'll most likely help influence your acceptance chances. Just do it.

well make a list of the colleges you're planning on applying to. if none of them take that credit, then don't take it. it would be a waste of money. if the colleges take the credit, then do it! unfortunately i didn't get my ap chem credit [i got a freaking 3!] which was only one of the three that i took last year that jhu actually takes. this year, i'm only taking calc bc, since they don't take english 4 and i'm not goign to pass my bio one haha.
