Can't go wrong with a Corolla or a Civic, they're popular, reliable and compact.

You could do some preliminary research. Check out Edmunds.com and kelly blue book value's.

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks of Corollas and Civics as 'sports cars' lol...

Haha :) I have a Toyota RAV4 (jeep) and I love it! It's my very first car and brand new too. I think it's great! It's great on gas and it runs very well in horrible weather (I live in Canada soooo yea. LOL). It costs more than a small car.. but I really think the benefits outweigh the price. If you're looking for something taller, more safe, then I'd definitely say the RAV4. It's super cute too!
Or the Honda Civic? They're nice :) But they don't run too well in snow :X LOL It's all about the snow in Canada.

But I guess what I'm trying to say is.. to get anything but American. They're still in the process of working out the kinks whereas other manufacturers have done that ages ago. I've yet to see something extraordinary from the US yet..

Anyway. Don't rush it! Take your time :)
