I'm looking for a good laptop backpack for college. You know, the kind that has the padded insert that will protect the laptop. I am looking for something under $50. Any recomendations?

^ Haha.

Jansport would probably be your best bet. Those are usually around your price range, and a lot more of them have laptop padding nowadays. I personally would shell out a little bit more and get one from a company like DaKine, Quiksilver, Roxy, Volcom or something similar to those. I had a Quiksliver backpack that I used since sophomore year of high school and it lasted me through high school and college. They are a bit more pricey ($60-$70), but it's worth it.

i would recommend actually NOT getting a laptop bag. Get something like a laptop sleeve that protects your laptop then just put it in a backpack so it doesn't draw attention. i know a few people who have had their laptops stolen and the people took the whole laptop bag because the thiefs know you have all your cables and stuff in there.

it's best to be descrete when carrying something valuable. no matter what school you're going to

good luck!

^I use a laptop sleeve too.. not to be discrete but I didn't like how messenger bags felt and my beat up backpack was still mostly okay. Its not super protection and dropping the bag is still a bad idea but a sleeve helps some at least.

^ won't that hurt your back? maybe you should get a lighter bag and put the laptop in a laptop sleeve. :/ that's what i plan to do, at least, because i know what my freshman year bookbag did to my posture, and you don't want to have a hunchback so early in college. :x
I love watching KevJumba's videos. xD

Haha, that's an awesome backpack. That seems a bit much though.

What's the size of your laptop?

Hmm...you guys think it's too big? I have a 13" Macbook. It's just one I am considering. I still have plenty of time to decide.
I'm not sure if it'd cause problems for my back. In high school I had to carry about three big textbooks during the day along with notebooks, etc. Plus, I won't be carrying the laptop around everyday.

The thing is that in college you don't really have to carry around that much stuff. tongue.gif

If it's only 13" then you probably might want to get a smaller backpack, haha. Check out Best Buy or Fry's, they have some great backpacks for laptops.

Yeah, I know I won't carry that much stuff which is why I didn't think it'd be that bad. If I had a backpack like that full every day my back would suffer. But carrying it around half empty shouldn't be too bad. I just like the look and price. lol. But I'm definitely going to keep looking.

The small jansport backpack is perfect for a 13" laptop. You wouldn't carry around 3 books and like 5 binders anyways, at most 1 or 2 books and a light notebook.

PS you'd look retarded pulling a 13" laptop out of that colossal mountain climber backpack.

i have the 13" too and was considering the northface borealis but i returned it after trying it because the laptop really doesn't need a big/very durable bag at all. and the bag was a bit too bulky.
since school doesnt start until august/september, i would just wait until the beginning of august to shop for backpacks. a lot of places will sell prettier & cheaper ones for back to school. i really liked the vs pink backpack that they sold last year, it had a laptop sleeve too, so i'm hoping they'd sell a similar one this year. i think it was around $50 too.

Also, if you are deadset on getting a laptop backpack, make sure the weight without anything in it is to your liking. My friends and I all have laptop backpacks and theirs is like 2.5-3lb without anything it in. Mine is 1lb. It doesn't sound like much but if you goto a school with massive hills, you'll start to feel it.

If you have a 13", I'd recommend either getting a laptop sleeve and sticking it in a regular Jansport backpack or get a smaller laptop backpack. I have a 14" laptop and I use a Dakine Prom backpack. It's on the smaller side of laptop backpacks and it has a feminine, rounded shape and a lot of compartments and comes in a lot of cute colors and designs. I love it and it wasn't that expensive. A really good site to get great deals on bags is ebags.com. I got my backpack there.

I have a 16" Gateway and sometimes I try keeping it in my Jansport (the most basic kind), but it barely fits and when you zip it up, you can really see the corner outline. mellow.gif

What am I to do...a laptop sleeve won't help, that'll just make it fatter.

Get a bigger one. tongue.gif

I got a Gateway around the same size and we had to get a huge laptop backpack from BBY. This is actually what it is.

It's a little heavy but not bad.
