Hey Soompiers! Well I have two snaggle tooth and an under bite which is really bothering me. I want to get it fix really bad but I know it won't be cheap. I want to remove my snaggle tooth but under neath it theirs a little gap and my snaggle tooth overlaps which makes it really distracting. As for my underbite I want to get braces. Basically I would like to know how much it would cost me because I do have insurance but I know they won't cover all and basically how they would fix it and how long it would take.
Let's do the math shall we?

I don't know your location so I can't comment on your type of insurance.

(it will vary from country to country and the plan you're on).

From what I know, whether or not they remove the tooth is up to the orthodontist's decision.

What they usually do is make a mould of your teeth first and then they will figure out how to straight the teeth. If the teeth are sharp, they'll polish (read: sand) the tooth down and they will attempt to straight any crooked teeth and get rid of any gaps.

Depending on how bad your underbite is, you will have braces for at least 2 years. I've known people who have had braces for at least the duration of high school, because their bite was exceptionally bad (and also because their teeth hadn't finished growing, or they refused to wear the elastics as instructed by the orthodontist).

It takes a lot of patience to brush your teeth, insert elastics and whatever. I suggest you do go to your dentist and ask about an orthodontist (a good one, or preferably, a good one who is near where you live) and just ask them for the price. You will pay for the first visit consultation (unless it's covered by insurance). Usually with braces they will tell you the price. You pay it upfront or in installments, and that is the amount you need to pay no matter how long it takes to fix your teeth (usually they will tell you it will cost $x for x years).

That's what it was like here in Sydney (and the others that I know of, anyway). But check your insurance plan and figure out how much % rebate you will get back. Here the average price for braces is about $4000AU.

you should just see an orthodontist and he'll check your teeth and estimate the cost and time.
i went a few days ago..and like my mom was there. and she was talking and all, and she had an underbite when she was younger, and the orthodontist was like woahhhhhhh. your kids are dang lucky they didnt get an underbite.
'cause apparently those are..not very good. like..takes longer to fix.

i have a crossbite, and excessive crowding 'cause when my genes were being made from my parents, i got jipped. haha.
i got a small jaw (crowding).
and he said it'd be over 2 years and with like basic insurance i think it was 3k. but with out insurance and some other..like offer thing it became <1600.

but also, when you do get to going, shop around and see several orthodontists and make sure you like the actual..person thatll be working on you and compare prices.
dont just see one guy and plop your money down.
[:

and idk about snaggle teeth..sorry/:

See if you can go to a free consultation somewhere where you live.

For braces it would cost around £2000, that would most likely include taking your snaggle tooth out and then straightening them - i can't really say without a picture to see from.

For your underbite depending on how bad it is you'll have to have surgery. i'm getting it done as well - i have to have braces first to straighten all my teeth then surgery then braces again to keep the poisition in place.
i'm hopefully and praying i'm going to be covered by insurance but if not it would cost around £8000, it costs a lot because its specialists work. If you were going to have the surgery braces wouldn't be included so its pretty pricy.
This is just an estimate and the prices are for the uk so be sure to convert the currency.
I think it would be best to go see your dentist or orthodontist to get all the information you can get and see what options are best for you.

hope i've been of some use smile.gif this is just coming from my own consulataion so yours would obviously be different.
