I've been getting kinda scared from all these things I've heard that running is really bad for your knees.
I can see that, but it's too good of a source to exercise for me to want to give up. How much I jog, not run:

Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat: 30 min jogging on 5.0 treadmill and 20 min of walking on the treadmill before and after jogging,
to warm up/cool down.

I mean I'm not doing it everyday, and my speed and length shouldn't be too harsh right? Although I plan on increasing
my jogging time to 40 min. becomes 30 min. has become kind of easy for me.

Don't over-do it.
3-4 times a week should be good

Mmm... If you're able to, run on an elliptical. I like running, but I have a really bad knee (torn ligaments years ago), so the only way I can run is on the elliptical. It's much better for the knees, and from what I've noticed for myself, you last longer too if you go at a good pace and whatnot.

But if you can't use an elliptical, just run a few days of the week or every other day.

Swim instead. Swimming won't severely affect your knees, or any other joints for that matter.

i don't think running on the treadmill's all that bad. you should be fine if you don't run on cement. i think it depends on the person, some people are lucky to be able to run without knee problems, others not so much.
i had some problems with my one knee from running, but stretching more fixed it up

When I used to jog, I noticed it was taking a toll on my weight bearing joints - probably because I was jogging on cement
So I switched to swimming because it was easier on my knees smile.gif

and make sure you get good running shoes too so you'll have a lower chance of injury~

Just go to a good running shoes store, and ask the experts to help you pick out a shoe.

I used to be obsessed and run on the treadmill everyday but now I'm having this knee and calf muscle pains. After I jog/run these days, I have a hard time dorsiflexing my foot. It's probably from delayed onset muscle spasm or something, but it still worries me. I suggest you don't do it everyday. 10 mins if fine when warming-up or cooling down smile.gif

I run as a sport, but i sprint, and ive been doing it for 6 seasons (three years) so far. our coach always tells us to make sure our shoes are in good condition (that is a very helpful tip, lemme tell you), make sure you have water, and dress comfortably. and as always, dont overdo it. with those facts, i think you'll be just fine when you run. it would be good to run one day and skip the next, like go in a structured pattern. you know what i mean? (we never ran every day, if we did, it would be easy-hard-none-hard.... etc.)

and if you do feel injury, as soon as you feel it, you should put ice on it. massage it out if you can (use an athletic roller), and rest. if its that bad, you should consider physical therapy. Running is good for you, but not when you overdo it biggrin.gif

Yea, when I'm running I feel my knees are being pressured.. but i love running.
My dad tells me to run on grass because it puts less pressure on your knees.

you have to strengthen and increase the flexibility of the core muscles (mid/lower abs and lower back) plus your legs to avoid injuring your knees. if you don't have a strong core and are not flexible in your legs extra pressure is placed on your knees.
