Just wanted people to share some of their road trips and any fun stories they have to tell ..

I love road trips and love going on them with friends.. make sure you only go them with friends who won't annoy you though. It's also fun fighting over music and playing mindless road trip driving games..

Road trips I've been on:
- Massachusetts to Toronto, every summer for 8 years .. my parents had a condo in Toronto when I was little and we'd go every summer. It was a crappy 9 hour drive stuck in a car with my whole family crammed into a sedan. I haven't gone in a while, but my parents keep driving there and back every summer.
- Massachusetts to Washington DC, 4 times .. 8-9 hour drive depending on traffic, I hate going through New York and New Jersey. However, you get to be in Delaware for like the 15 minutes it takes to drive through it and go through their toll. Also get to eat Sonic when we drive down!
- New Orleans to Massachusetts, did it in three legs (each leg was between 8-10 hours each).. stayed with friends/family for a night each leg. Went from New Orleans, through Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and stayed in Savannah Georgia for a night. Then went from Georgia, to Charleston SC to drop off a friend, through North Carolina, into Virginia, and spent the night in DC. Last leg of the trip was from DC, to Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and finally into Massachusetts.
- Vietnam: Saigon to Nha Trang 9 hours, all through the night .. I was there traveling with friends and we all slept the entire time it was really uncomfortable though. I loved the million jack fruit stands though.

Favorite road trip game is the A-Z game, where you have to find words on cars/billboards/whatever you see while driving starting from A all the way to Z, in order. You have to call it out loud .. like "A, for the Arizona on that license plate .." or "A, for the Applebees" and each thing can only be called once. The letter has to be the first letter of the word too, even on a license plate #. Hard to describe, but easy to play and mindless. It gets competitive but some letters are just hard to find.

Not many fun stories, but funniest moment was when we were stuck in traffic going down to DC and totally saw a man getting some oral sex (tried to say that in the least vulgar way). It was hilarious.

Also, driving from New York back to Massachusetts once and this truck was driving in the lane next to us. He would speed up and slow down with us, starring at the car of 3 girls, then he started making hand gestures near his mouth stimulating oral sex .. we then flipped him off and sped off. Might not have been the smartest thing to do.

Really want to drive to California.. anyone done it?

Montreal to Prince Edward Island: Supposed to be 12-13 hours of driving. We did this in one shot. At the time, we only had one friend who knew how to drive and my boyfriend who had his learner's permit. So she drove most of the time and i think took two hours of sleep while my bf drove. With my friend speeding's of 180 km / hour (i really feared for my life and just kept myself hidden in the back the whole ride), we managed to make it there in 10 hours instead of 12-13. It was fun, but I told myself I would never get in a car with her again, with her aggressive driving and all. I think we were stopped by the cops once and also got into one minor accident. She sort of wrecked the back of the rental car.
Going on the confederation bridge was pretty awesome though. I think it is one of the most beautiful bridges I've ever seen in my life. It was super long and just wow. We got to it at around 6 am so the sun was just rising. So as we moved forward, it was like going towards the light. Just beautiful!

Montreal to Boston: 5-6 hours drive. We made it there in 4 hours. I thought it would be hard, but it was actually pretty easy. We didn't get lost once. Driving in the city though was another story. Lol. Going back was a pain though, since there was a huge storm following us. Apparently there was a mini tornado right after we left, so it's good we left early and missed that. We also visited Annisquam, MA. so that was about an hour and a half of driving away from Boston with all our getting lost and all.

Montreal to Toronto (6 hours), Toronto to Tobermory (4 hours), Tobermory to Montreal (10 hours): This was fine until we had decided to go see a lighthouse in Tobermory. That was 4 hours away from Toronto. So we woke up in the morning and left Toronto for Tobermory. It was only my boyfriend who knew how to drive. And we tried to avoid the 407 Highway, because you had to pay. The GPS wasn't working, so we had to use a phone to GPS us there. Once we got to Tobermory and saw the lighthouse, we went back to Montreal. Pretty much a 14 hour drive for my boyfriend, non-stop. Well, we did stop at a Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot in Scaborough to eat! We listened to the Playboy channel the whole ride back. That's how my bf managed to keep his focus.

Montreal to Chigago (13-14 hours): We're planning this for July. smile.gif Maybe stop in Toronto for a little rest. I hope it goes well!

Twin Cities to Kawkawklin, MI 3 weekends ago.

We left Friday noon and got back home Sunday midnight because I had to be at work by 9 the next day. It took us 15 hrs. to get there and 13 hrs. to get back home. I went with a friend. Man, that girl had A LOT of questions. She's a 36 yr. old virgin who was curious about EVERYTHING. lol We had a blast though.

Missed out exit, so ended up taking the long way. Almost hit 2 deers (that was the most excitement of our trip). Missed my cat soooooo much. Three days away from her felt like an eternity.

There was one hot scorching summer day on a drive from Calgary to Kelowna, I drove pass a car on the side of the road completely engulfed in a giant fireball. It was surreal. This was in the rocky mountains and the car was burning so bad, you could see black smoke on the horizon from a couple mountains away.

I love road trips, mostly.

CA to Chicago (by way of TX): Very interesting. It's weird to realize that the rest of the country is not like Los Angeles. People were super nice at a supermarket in AZ when we were holding up the line. Got stared at a lot at some random gas stations and truck stops, lots of creepy guys, not sure if some of them had seen Asians IRL. Stopped by the biggest cross in the western hemisphere and some guy glared at us when my friend and I laughed a little (in the parking lot, not near any of the statues and stuff). The little room with the replica of the shroud thing was REALLY creepy, and so was the tomb. Passed by lots of farms, churches, and porn shops on the road. I really wanted to stop by a porn shop to see what they were like in the middle of nowhere, but got a little too creeped out. Had the worst Mexican food ever in Houston. Salsa from a jar, for God's sake! Froze my butt off in Chicago, almost literally. It was super cold and windy, and I made the mistake of sitting on a metal bench. Yikes.

CA to Seattle: It was pretty boring for the most part, lots of mountains. Got stared at in some random Del Taco in northern CA. My friend forgot that you can't pump your own gas in Oregon, haha. Seattle was cool, and fun. Forgot that people can still smoke in restaurants elsewhere, and I did not enjoy the smoky Denny's we stopped at. I enjoyed the fried clams at Ivar's Miles of Clams.

Love road trips. Just wanna say AAA is worth every penny as it's saved my butt many times. Once got stuck in New Mexico desert at night and I saw a weird light in the sky. I don't know if it was aliens or whatever, but we had just passed by Roswell (town where supposedly there is a crash site of an alien craft). Creepy nonetheless.

Road tripping in America is great because of such variety of landscapes and terrains. As a photographer it makes for beautiful photos that I know I'd miss out on if I'd travel by plane. Planning on a winter roadtrip. Wanna see the grand canyon then head up to Vegas to see a Cirque du Soliel show.

Did a roadtrip about 6 years back when i was still in uni. 13 days 2500kms (1500 miles or so) from sydney to south australia then down through vitoria into melbourne then up the east coast back into sydney. Every night was a new town except for the 2 nights we spent in Melbourne. Very cheap too, there were 6 of us and we stayed mostly in cabin parks, caravans and camped out in a nation park once too. Very cheap considering the distance we went and factoring in the hire of the van. It was the best time of year to do it, early january which is summer time for us.

I wish i had more fun driving stories, but I tend to do road trips with family which means boring...

Boston to Toronto (and vice versa): On the way back to the border, we always try and smuggle fruit but then my mom ALWAYS chickens out, forces us to eat all of the fruit before we hit the border, where a lazy half-awake guard lets us through without ever checking. You think she would learn..

Boston to New Hampshire: as part of the rowdier car of two cars, we decided to serenade the other car with off-key singing along to Selena's "Dreaming of You" on speaker phone. Then drop dead quiet during her spanish speaking solo, which a guy member of our group belted along solo and we will never let him live down. EVER.

Telling ghost stories on particularly dark, and empty stretches of road driving overnight is always fun, especially when you sit in the backseat and it's always a story about someone climbing the back of the car. Especially scary driving through deserts in CA from San Fran to LA to Las Vegas (10 hours)

The only road trip I did was when I was in SoCal last year. From LA to Vegas, took us about 4-5 hours with 1-2 stops. Some nice landscapes around, and saw one dust devil which was pretty amazing to contemplate on the way.

Wow, such prolific road adventures to read here on this thread!
I wish I had memorable road trips to share, but truth be told the only long drive worth mentioning was when I drove from Escondido (which is north of San Diego) right down to the US-Mexico border at Tijuana.
I know, I know, that's not much of a road trip, but hey - it was in a stolen golf cart.

I've been on way too many road trips. =(

Twin Cities, MN to Detriot, MI (Two Times) - A very long trip (13-14 hours) to be in a mini van with 6 other people. It wasn't that bad, I had fun driving through Chicago (not so much the traffic). My siblings and I talked about numerous things and played really random games.

Detriot, MI to Toronto, Canada and Niagara Falls, Canada Side (Two Times) - Probably the most interesting trip of all. The second time I went there almost my whole extended family went too. There was 7 cars in total, three economy, three mini vans, and one 15 passenger van. Can you imagine how it was like? Everyone had walkie-talkies in their car so we were chatting with each other through the rides. Some of my uncles even sang! So did my dad -- it was so embarrassing. ph34r.gif

Twin Cities, MN to Arkansas (Six Times) - A 12 hours drive if you're following the speed limit, if not then you can probably make it in 9 hours. My parents own a house there so we usually make a trip every summer to check up on the house and to see my dad's oldest brother. The ride there is so boring because you basically drive through a bunch of plains. So whenever we go, I just make use of this time to sleep. laugh.gif

Russellville, AR to Orlando, FL - I had fun on this trip. Did a lot of karaoke and Q&A. Oh, and I had fun counting all the Wal-Marts and Adult Stores along the way. I never knew there were SOOO many adult stores, I think I counted close to 20. laugh.gif

Fayetteville, AR to Dallas, TX - With this trip I went with my boyfriend and our friends. It was fun. We talked about really strange topics. I think the worst part was driving through Oklahoma -- it was so dead and boring. The one thing I remember from this trip was the gas station. We stopped to gas up because there wasn't much gas station through OK. My boyfriend literally pumped two gallons in and it stopped. He went in to tell them that it stopped and for them to fix it. They told him that that's all he paid for when he had originally paid for 10 gallons. Took awhile for them to fix it and I learned that angry Asians are never a good sight. LOL!

Since snow isnt so common in Australia. Instead of spending much on a snow holiday to see snow, and less travelling i find, the marginal snow areas are more fun and cheaper.

Gold Coast to Guyra (5hrs approx) a lovely trip beautiful subtropical scenery then lovely woodlands uptop the range with farming land and lovely towns along the highways. It is also the thrill of forecasting how much snow will fall biggrin.gif

My recent road trip was with my brother. We drove from San Francisco clear across the country to New York, and we did it in 5 days. It would have been 4 if we hadn't stopped and gone to Cedar Point in Ohio (home of Top Thrill Dragster, 3rd fastest roller coaster in the world). My brother drove most of the way and we went through my entire music library in my iPod lol. We had lots of people stare at us and look at us in a funny way when we were in some of the midwestern states; I guess asians aren't common in that area O_O

The only one that comes to mind is driving from Ann Arbor, Michigan down to Orlando, Florida. It was during the winter time, and we passed through snow storms (where we almost died from traffic, snow, etc, just ugh), through Atlanta, GA (where I got flicked off by a driver for going 5 over, and then he passed me), to giving cold medicine to my brother to put him to sleep so he wouldn't be crying half way through the trip.

It was memorable, but I don't think I'd want to do that again with a little kid.

haha.. that'd be fun, we'll all chip in and get one of those big RV's.

I was watching this reality show where these families are road tripping down Route 66. I really want to go through all these mid-west states, because otherwise I'm not sure if I'd ever visit them.
