I think you are misinterpreting the purpose of this thread.
I also think you shouldn't use unsupported statistics.
To label those who support correct spelling and good grammar as 'elite' is, in every sense of the word, 'childish' and bewildering.
If you think about it, it's kind of sad and funny that people who are grammatically correct and know how to spell would be labeled "elite". I mean, in this day and age, aren't we all supposed to know how to spell and speak correctly?
I never realized until recently how annoying it is when people replace words that begin with 'th' with 'd'. Someone pointed this out already but it's annoying to read. 'dey' 'dis' 'dat' 'da'.

1) Their vs. there vs. they're
2) It's vs. its
3) You're vs. your <--- This one is one of the most annoying mistakes.
What annoys me even more is when people get angry at me for correcting them. They get all defensive and 'hate on me' when I'm trying to help them out. It's a pitiful situation, to be honest.
To contribute to the thread, has anyone mentioned incorrect plurals? e.g. Sheeps, fishes .... *twitch*
agree with this.. the "your" thing is the dumbest mistake to me since this was one of the first grammar rules that we all learned in school

I also hate seeing people try to use whom and then use it when it actually should just be who. Hearing "Whom is it?" or "Whom is asking?" hurts my ears. Also, saying things like "It's just between you and I" to sound more grammatical when "between you and me" is actually both more common and correct bothers me. I don't care if people use who all the time and never whom, even in formal situations, but it's a definite pet peeve of mine when people use the wrong pronoun for the sentence in an attempt to sound more formal or smarter while actually seeming the opposite to anyone who knows her grammar.
I don't mind many mistakes that much, since I'm used to seeing them and a lot of mistakes are not quite so basic or just colloquial, but the really basic things we learned when first learning grammar and using incorrect grammar to try to sound smarter bother me a lot.

Anyway, I'm not sure if these two have already been covered but they seem to be such common mistakes.
1. Think vs. Feel
- People can't feel an opinion, they can only think it.
2. Who vs. That
- Individuals are referred to as "who," not "that."

I'm sure there are a few people here that feel the same way as you.

More:
- "Whose" instead of "Who's" or vice versa
- "It's" instead of "His/Hers" when referring to a person
- Removal of vowels from words: "ht it whn ppl d ths!!!!"
- Spelling people's names incorrectly (e.g., Hyung Joon vs. Hyun Joong / Silvia vs. Sylvia / Marc vs. Mark) - Just disrespectful, especially when it's shown on the same page.
- Improper capitalization: "today i Went to the doctor For a Check Up"
Canadian-specific pet peeves (exempt on forums/internet but for academic writing in Canada):
- Using "checks" instead of cheques
- Colors/favorites instead of colours/favourites
- "Ain't" instead of "is not"
I could go on. I admit I'm quite the grammar elitist. My friends call me the grammar police and ask me to check how their screen tags look on MSN ("Is this okay, grammar police officer?" haha).

If you go to Google News and search with this misspelled word, you can see that it gets over 390 hits!
And, over 80 pages of hits if searched under Soompi's Google custom search!

I can't be too picky about grammar though because my grammar isn't exactly perfect and I do love removing vowels from words when typing on the internet. I abuse that style of writing like no one's business. I sometimes misspell words on purpose too, but only when making fun of something/someone >.>

Oh my word. This one is definitely another pet peeve of mine. I always tell people to break it down. De-finite-ly.

I was just looking thorugh the notebook buying guide in the tech section and someone was asking for a 13' MacBook Pro.
And in the height discussion thread, some girl said she was 5"4'.

I've been seeing a lot of people say "piece of mind" lately. You can tell they mean "peace of mind" because of the context, because "piece of mind" doesn't make sense...
