What are some of your grammar/spelling pet peeves?

Usually, when I see a forum, which consists or attempts at correct grammar, spelling and punctuation, that I feel the need to conform yet I prefer to type quickly disregarding the correct usage of all three laugh.gif

Personally, I prefer to keep all the formality at work and just "hang loose" in forums such as these unless the topic requires sincerity smile.gif

A pet peeve of mine is a person who points out the mistake of another when they understand what that person's trying to say. It's ok to sincerely correct someone just don't ridicule.

I'm pretty laxed with the misuse of the above as long as I understand the message being conveyed then all good biggrin.gif

ha. I read that last sentence in Cookie's voice. the nom nom part came into my head automatically. =p

It's about the same for me-as long as I can understand what the person is trying to write. Nothing really bothers me that much grammar-wise...but I have noticed that there are plenty of middle/jr high/ hs students (or people who were students at one point) who were born and bred in the US (especially) that still have these troubles. I guess it's just easier for some people to absorb certain things, and that's why they teach us grammar/usage for so many years. I still don't remember all the rules, and almost always have to look up how to use lie/lay the right way. ><

I hate when people say "touch base." Where did that phrase come from, anyway?

it bothers me a lot.
one thing i always notice is that a whole lot of people use 'should of' instead of 'should have'. i don't get how they get that wrong.

I think they're trying to say "should've" but don't realize it's a contraction.

I used to type very formally to seem extremely educated and mature when I was in my teens.

now i usually type like this LAWL srsly

It's like I'm losing a dozen brain cells each year... Or maybe I just want to seem cool and hip to the kiddies here. Just kidding. I don't really have any pet peeves, other than the word "azn." Haha.

"Hurted" is not a word. The past tense of "hurt" is "hurt."

i'm not too picky on grammar/spelling since heck, i don't use like to use capitals and always sucked at grammar anyway...

but my hugest pet peeve is when ppl switch around 'loose' and 'lose'!!
Alice asked the Cheshire Cat `Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.

American simplified English really annoys me. Favor, flavor, color, center when it should be favour, flavour, colour, centre.

Microsoft word; can you please stop punishing me! I have changed every possible setting to UK English and still you spite me with ugly red lines! Oh, don't get me started on text SMS language.

I started to see this so much that I questioned myself and thought I was wrong. The thing that bugs me most are the grammar/spelling mistakes that are done intentionally. For instance, "come" and "cum" (that one really... really bugs me for some reason), "the" and "dee", "me" and "meh", and using "q's" for "g's" (younqq/ young). Did I forget to mention throwing in letters that you know don't belong there? I feel old saying this but I know for the younger kids it's cool to misspell and use upper/lower case whenever they feel like but they should stop. It hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. Seriously, those bad habits will turn into real habits and it'll look bad on them as an adult who can't spell.

I stopped getting mad at people for being undereducated along time ago, especially since I make mistakes a lot and also like to type in cutesy ways. I work with young people who haven't the opportunity to even get a proper education let alone learn how to spell, so it taught me how to be more lenient with tiny things such as this. If the message is getting through to me, I really don't care.

Meh, it doesn't really bother me that much as it does to some people. Only if their whole sentence was filled with errors and typos. HAHA but even so I would just avoid reading that.

Also, some people type fast and don't care for mistakes. It doesn't mean that their not educated enough. I think everyone should just let go of this "pet peeve" of theirs. Besides, this is just the internet. The only thing I don't like is when people mispronunce the words.

I don't expect perfect spelling and grammar because it's the internet. I use emoticons quite a bit and I use common abbreviations. This is what I hate:

- when people TyP lYk DiS LyK OMG.
- should of, could of and would of
- when people can't use the word 'suicide' properly. i.e. "I don't understand why he would suicide" or "I get so sad sometimes I think about going suicide". Refer to Love and Relationships or Current Events for examples.

Personally I hate the ghetto typing. Ugh. I lose more brain cells trying to figure out what they're saying.

I help friends with editing and revising their essays/emails/anything that they write. So my peeves deal with commas and run on sentences. Also I don't understand why text speak is still necessary, when most people now have large screens and full keyboards on their phones....
