i'm studying for the GREs right now and my math/quantitative scores are just... ugh. while my verbal is consistently in the high 90s percentile. i've been fairly good at math in school, but when it comes to standardized tests, my math score is never as good as typical "asian" scores (i do admit that it is a stereotype, and i'm obviously an exception -.-), while my verbal/writing scores are really high.

also fyi, i was not born in the US. i immigrated when i was 13 (~10 yrs ago).

anyone else shares the same experience?

I'm not the best at math, but I'm really good at verbal.
On standardized tests, I end up excelling in math and being more average on verbal wacko.gif

Girl,

I am freakin way opposite! I am complete nerdy math girl with excellent grades to prove it!
But, when it comes to english, I want to cry my butt off! Why do my grammar suck so badly, I finally realize that god don't want no one to be that PERFECT! So we must lack one qualities!

Bua ha ha ,
I'm the same way too!
My Math isn't bad but sometimes I need people to explain the
concept to me more slowly or with visuals.
Whereas my Reading and Writing marks are a lot higher.
I don't know, I just like to read and write as opposed to like.....solving an equation :S

Blughh. I was like that for the SATs, but then I started focusing on the math part hardcore and only solving math problems.. my score bumped up by a looooot after a month of doing that.

xAzumi - lol true true... i guess i should be thankful instead that i'm actually good at verbal considering other immigrants like me always complain about how hard verbal is vicx.gif

x__yekki - that's what i've been doing too... but sadly my scores didn't really improve much sad.gif i don't know if its because the sample questions i was working on were harder than actual ones, but at this point i'm pretty much on the verge of giving up ><

Sounds just like me. I've always excelled in English but performed less than stellar in math no matter how hard I studied. My verbal score on my SAT's were my lifesaver, if I hadn't done well in that department my math score would have sunk me.
