Unlimited Texting I have a question

I have unlimited texting and I live in the US.

But I was never sure whether this counts for Canada too. Meaning, if I text to someone over there, do I get charged (beside the 30 dollar a month for any number of texts I send in the states)?
Am I missing something here? Because our phone bill just came and my mom keeps yelling at me because she knows I text to people in Canada.

You could ask to see the bill and look at how much you were charged for it?

I think it might depend on your carrier too, but it won't be at 30$ extra or anything. About 0.25$ per outgoing is a good, average rate.

canada is considered international (just like mexico), and i'm pretty sure your unlimited texting might be for domestic texting. also, keep in mind that some providers charge for incoming texts too.

I think international texts are like $0.30 sending and receiving. Your unlimited plan will not work for people who are not within the USA.

To OP, who's your phone company? AT&T, right?

I believe you are charged $0.25 for each outgoing and incoming text from Canada.
So.. anywhere not in the US, you will be charged.

i'm pretty sure you get charged. it's considered international if it's outside of US.

It depends on your carrier. I know when I had Verizon, texts to Canada were part of domestic texting.. however, I switched to AT&T and Canada is considered international.

Oh sweet. I was wondering that too, because when my friend was in Canada she kept texting be back and forth. I had Verizon she had AT&T. Apparently she got billed a lot, and asked me if I did too and my bill didn't change and my mother would have complained asking why our bill is high but she didn't. My other friend who was texting her had AT&T as well and she was charged a heck of a lot.

WAIT! I have a question!
What if I'm from Canada, but I went to the states for vacation? Would I get charge if I text to people in Canada? I have unlimited texting too...

Thanks to everyone who replied. yes I have AT&T. And the bill listed all the texts it charged me for, they all had "Toronto" on their location.
So now I know.

I wanted to know the same thing, but kind of opposite like: if I went to Canada and texted someone in Canada would I still get charged?
I don't know the answer to that yet, but I think it's no.

Yes you will still get charged because your still "borrowing" the Canadian phone service because you have a US provider.

Probably not included in unlimited texting but you should probably call your service provider.

If you're texting to someone that has in outside number (international), then yeah, you will be charged roaming texting. But if you're texting to someone who is overseas BUT has a USA number (meaning they live in the states, but are overseas), then you WON'T be charged with roaming texting fees.

I even asked AT&T wireless with this XD ahah. But I'm sure it also goes for Sprint/T-Mobile/Verizon

It depends on your carrier, because I never got charged for texting to Canada. I use Sprint.
You should check with them.

I think so, wouldn't that count for roaming texting?
For US-based providers, usually unlimited texting counts as within the nation (Domestic use only). Maybe your provider is like that too?

I have the exact same question : D If I text someone out of my city but within my country, would it cost me more? Like I live in Edmonton... what if I text someone in Calgary? or Toronto?
