Okay, so it's about to time for my update on my phone in like a month.
and I just came back from camp, with all my new friends having Iphones.
and they told me, the 3G one was only $99.
and I have the money, so I was thinking about getting it.
But then, another person told me like the plan is complicated and stuff.
which I really didn't get.
Could someone explain that for me?
and do you like yours?
mods if i did anything wrong.. forgive me, and move this please~

ms. soo yeon,
it's complicated because the $99 only applies if you sign up to a voice + data plan and this plan goes on for at least 2 years (and it's not cheap, and at&t reception isn't that great in certain areas of the u.s.). Plus, $99 is for the older version if iphone so not the newest one.
why don't you buy a second hand iphone? They are going for around $350USD and if you do this it is cheaper than signing up to a 2 year contract.
edit-I love mine but only because I have a data plan. If I was to use the iphone without data I don't really know how much I would like it... a lot of phones play mp3s and movies these days, if you just bought an ipod touch for $2xx.xx brand new and carried it beside your phone it would be the same thing + you don't have to worry about going on the internet by mistake and being charged for it.

iphones are awesome, plain and simple. I adore mine
I pay $30 a month for internet on top of my current plan (which includes unlimited texting and free calls to anyone on my network)
I think it's pretty ok. Not very expensive at all unless I gab to a bunch of people on different networks

okay, the plan,
my other friend said that you have to get an individual plan and not a family plan??
is that what you did?
because my plan right now is a family plan, with unlimited texting and I think free calls..

@naoto:
ohhhhh, okay.
I get what you're saying now.
see, my friends always leave all the important stuff out. >.<'
But, I think I could cover the whole $30 per month thing, since my allowance is about that much.
and my parents pay the bill anyways.
But do you know if I have to get on my own plan, or if I can stay on the family plan??
if I have to get my own plan, I'll just forget about it. ^^

you should call or walk into an at&t store, I don't think any of us know your family account specifically >< maybe there is a way to include this in, you never know. Talk to your parents and ask at&t to see if there is any way to get you an iphone~ good luccckkkkk!

From what I know, you could stay on your family plan, but you'd have a specific plan since you'd be activated with an iPhone. The mandatory data plan would be applied only to your line, if no one else in your family also decides to get an iPhone.
I thought it was the 2g that is now $99? I'm not sure though.
I use an unlocked 2g with T-Mobile. The data plan is honestly too much for me. So whenever I use anything that requires internet, I have to depend on wifi. It's fine with me, though. A lot of the features on the iPhone do depend on the internet though, so if I want to say use the Maps app as a GPS while driving, I wouldn't be able to, unless I'm somewhere with wifi. This is kinda inconvenient, but I'm surviving.
