I see a lot of Koreans around but I don't see any Japanese around.
So basically I just want to meet as many Japanese friends as possible.
This is going to be my second year at UIUC.

Well, I'm sure there's some Japanese in your classes - I don't know if the Japanese culture/language classes are filled with anime freaks (probably..are?
), but there should be SOME. Just keep expanding your network and meet new people! In Illinois, there's not many Japanese people to begin with (the most are probably concentrated in Chicago)...
Oh, and always look for the east asia studies minors. They are likely to have learned Japanese and some may be native speakers as well.

Speaking from at least my college, the lower levels of japanese have a mix of anime people and people who don't watch anime. The latter group is trying to fulfill their language requirement. As the levels increase, the class becomes more and more anime/jdrama filled.

I am going to study abroad in Japan from fall 2010 for at least a year.
And I will be at Japan and Korea during next summer break.
I thought it would be a good chance to get to know native Japanese starting this semester.
Also through association I am 25% Japanese but 100% Korean blood.

it's better to become friends with ppl naturally, than asking them to be your friend because you're going to japan or something.
i don't know anything about your university, but is there no japanese student's club?
i assume you mean japanese from japan and not, say, japanese-american, right?
you could put up a flier on campus, i guess.
but, to be honest, if i were japanese and someone came up to me and said they wanted to be my friend because i was japanese, i'd be a bit weirded out
i write an important thing, and do not let's finish. a way of writing for freedom.

....=____= my first-grade math skills are telling me this doesn't add up, bro.
better beef up on your self-teach japanese books (there are some pretty good ones out there) and enhance those with mega dosings of j-drama/anime/music.

My grandfather was born in Japan and raised in Japan.
Which makes his nationality Japanese but his parents are Korean.
That makes my father half Japanese by association.
My mother is 100% Korean so that's how I become 25% Japanese by association.

^I might be wrong but nationality doesn't transfer over. If it does, that means I'm 50% Brazillian by "association". But I was born in America, so I'm American... Ive never heard of anyone telling me they were 100% Chinese, 50% Brazillian, 25% Italian, 10% Thai, 10% Egpytian and 5% American by association. But whatever D:.
