whos the best rapper in history? i thought about Tupac and/or Eminem. bcuz they are the only rappers who actually can rap. not singing about having money, hoes, being rich, unlike todays rather infelicitous rap community.

Mine would swing towards Rakim.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter who has given us freedom of press. It is the Soldier, not the poet who has given us freedom of speech. It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer who gives us freedom to demonstrate. It is the Soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and who's coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.
Hooah!

Personally i think of Lupe Fiasco, Common (especially his early albums), tribe called quest/Q-tip as great MCs.

I don't really listen to rap. So I'm not all that familiar with rappers.
But just based on what I've heard, I'd say Immortal Technique.

His lyrics are kind of gross yet meaningful.

this is the dumbest thing i have EVER heard concerning hip hop and/or tupac.
he was THE most influential rapper of his time. he was an intellectual poet and a man that many people have come to respect because he had a voice that spoke truth. yeah he was a thug... but what do you expect? he was born and raised in the projects, grew up without a father, and had a mother who abused drugs. read his poetry... listen to some of his songs.. do your research before making false accusations. and for the record.. he never raped a woman. get your facts straight pleaase.

ANYWAY... to the op, no.. eminem & tupac are not the only rappers who can actually rap. blink.gif

you can add these artists to your list:

a tribe called quest, talib kweli, nas, wu tang clan, atmosphere, az, bone thugs n harmony, zion i, little brother, cunninlynguists, murs, notorious big, cypress hill (*b real), souls of mischief, binary starz, eazy e, ice cube, mos def, outkast, the pharcyde, big L, lupe fiasco, royce da 5'9, the roots, jedi mind tricks, mobb deep, public enemy, talib kweli, common.. the list literally goes on & on.

hope this changes your mind about there being only two rappers in history who actually have talent.

Oh god. I don't even listen to rap and even I know that that's a ridiculous statement.
I don't see how you can make a thread talking about best rappers in history and truly believe that there are only 2 people that can actually rap.

The question is asking who Is the best rapper in history, thus all your john teshing stupid accusations are not relevant to rapping.

I can probably name more than 100 MCs who don't rap about money, hoes, and being rich.

Anyways, I believe there is no best MC alive because we have not heard all of them to determine who's the best. But I'll just make a list of great MCs.
Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Slug, KRS-One, Rakim, Andre 3000, A Tribe Called Quest, MF Doom, Mos Def, Common (early stuff), Nas, Wu Tang Clan, Immortal Technique, The Roots, Little Brother, Tonedeff, The Last Emperor, CunninLynguists, Jedi Mind Tricks, OutKast, Aesop Rock, eLZhi.
