Schoolwork, HD to Blu Ray Movies, Not too heavy, colors of white, gray, mostly black, light blue.
Something with a 16.4" or greater.
That's basically it.
Willing to pay up to around $2000 for one.

If you said you're willing to pay around 2000, I have the perfect laptop for you.

$250 more than your max, but trust me, you will not be disappointed. It may be huge at 18.4", but this laptop is more powerful than a good portion of desktops. The graphics cards will let you run any game you want on max, including the infamous Crysis, and the processor is enough to run 3 instances of Crysis.
And if that's a little too much:

A good solid Graphics Card, won't let you run Crysis on Max, but it'll do fine on most games. Good processor, T series will lower power consumption, and it's small and lightweight. This is a very good laptop for a college student.

I haven't started college yet, but I still say best decision ever. Small, but not too small. And my friends' 15+ inch laptops seem obnoxiously big, especially if you're going to be in a lecture hall with 200+ people.

Dell XPS 13 inch or 15inch are pretty nice. If you get a 9 cell, you'll be able to last a good 4-5 hours without any problems.

I'll be sure to keep batery life in mind since it's suppose to last me most of my class time.
The Laptop for $2,250 doesn't seem bad, but im getting this unsure feeling whether or not i'll still have an interest in games once i actually start school. :[
Friends told me to get something under 15 inches as well but what's the point if it's so hard to see? :] Don't people want a laptop where they can do a lot more than just schoolwork? i know i do.
Vaio's are overpriced indeed, but it seems to me that Macbook are just as well. Since im a windows fan, that's probably why.

A strong laptop like that 2250 is so expensive!
You might as well get a powerful desktop (check the one in my sig out - it's way more powerful than that 2250 laptop) That's only $1200! With bluray the set up will just be $1300-400 maybe. Buy a mini netbook (they are small and awesome for school work and not heavy with good battery life) for $400 and you get the best of both worlds at less than $2000!
I believe that's the best route to go if you have $2000 and you have two computers you can bring home after college and no one is going to steal a huge computer.

From the looks of it, your desktop is not THAT much more powerful than that laptop, in fact, it's balanced out a bit.
You have the i7 920, which is an amazing processor in its own right. But the Core2Quad was just behind that, which only makes it a slight step back. You probably have your core i7 overclocked like hell however, but considering how laptops can't really do anything about that...
Your graphics card does not rival the 4870 X2 in any way. 4870 X2 is the same as 4870's in Crossfire, in other words, 2 graphics cards.
Also, when did you make your machine? $1200? My set up is the same thing almost: 4890, i7 920, ASUS Mobo, Raptor I bummed off a friend, DDR3. Mine came out to around 800.
If you do choose to go desktop-netbook, you'll need about 1200 invested in a desktop and its accessories, especially a decent monitor. As for a netbook, who the hell needs a $400 one? Target has the ASUS EeePC900 for 150 right now. RAM Upgrade's like 20 bucks. Invest into a desktop.
If you want help, I can suggest builds depending on what you want your desktop for, such as gaming, movies, being quiet, etc. I can also suggest you netbooks.

Got it a couple months ago. I got it made but I was planning on putting it together myself. The list of stuff from newegg that I made always came out to around the same price so I might as well just buy it custom built since it was around finals time. With monitor, psu, case, fans, HD, CD, speakers added yours would probably cost a bit closer to mine. (ur gpu is definitely more cost effective than mine though)
A desktop/netbook combo would be good, but like others said ... if you can afford it and want convenience...I guess get the laptop (still gonna be heavy though).
