Maybe one of those Rogers phones with unlimited texting? Because sometimes people don't have time to listen to voicemail/don't know how to use it xD, and texts are fast to read. And make sure the keypad is easy for you to use, because it always annoys me when I use my mother's.
And don't get the LG Chocolate.. I have this right now and it totally sucks.
