So I'm 23 and I still get pimples, especially when the weather's hot. I get zits too, or whatever it's called... the white pimples haha. I look around and it seems most people my age don't have it anymore. Is it normal to still have it this late? Do you guys have any tips to get rid of it?

well, if you like touching your face with your dirty hands, of course you'll get pimples
also if you like eating oily and fried food too

don't worry, same here. I don't touch my face with dirty hands and I don't even eat fried foods or oily foods lol. Though It's not that dramatic, so I'm just using cleanser, mask, and moisturizer, hoping that it wouldn't get worse. I will go to my Dr. to have him prescribe the Benzyl Peroxide face wash soon. I think it's normal, maybe drink plenty of water?

It happens! I agree, it could be because your face is rubbing against something dirty. (Wash your pillows covers too.) Sometimes foods like chocolate or drinks like soda can cause acne. It could be your face-wash, too or some sort of reaction to something you apply to your face. (Lotion, sunscreen, make-up, etc.) Try and wash your face with something your face won't react to like that or lotion. Avoid dirtying your face, like touching with your hands, or laying down on a ground in your house or something and your face touching the dirty floor. But good luck! Try those and see if that works-- if not then you may want to try and go to a doctor if it's too much of an issue. Good luck again~!

I don't think it's always that simple though, personally. Some people have adult acne, and I don't think it's attributable to just those things. For example, my sis has it at 27, and it seems pretty uncontrollable. She has a very restricted diet, she has a very specific facial routine, etc, but it's still pretty bad each month around her period.

I think part of the problem with acne is that people assume that it's always easily dealt with, and when someone still has it they look at these people as being dirty or negligible. It's similar to being overweight in my opinion. In some cases it is easily dealt with, but in others it simply isn't, so I don't think it's fair to paint every case with the same brush.

I've never said those 2 things are the only reasons a person get acnes occasionally. I just mentioned most common reasons.
It was late, I was lazy to write long post.
and yeah, other common reason is hormone imbalance, like how your sister gets bad case of acnes during period.
BC pills help me controlling that problem.

It's okay. I'm 22 and the weird thing is all throughout highschool I never had pimples. Only until about a year after I graduated I started breaking out. I do breakout before I start my period though but the pimples just seem to go away and come back repeatedly. I started using Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque and it seems to be helping a lot.
Some say i'm a genius, others say i'm crazy
but they all say i'm a little on the weird side

I'm 21 and I've had mild/moderate acne since I was 9.

I've tried numerous treatments; drugstore, department store, Proactiv, prescriptions.

Right now I'm on prescriptions on top of birth control, and they seem to work pretty well. I've only been on them for a week, so I'm hoping for improvement.

Maybe try seeing a dermatologist for a topical retinoid. I'm using one, and it helps with pores and wrinkle care along with acne.

I think it might be stress as well? Don't quote me on it though, I'm not sure.

I think it's completely normal. I've got really good skin, but even when it's hot or if I eat something fried, one will pop up somehow.

I noticed a few people here posted common myths/misconceptions about acne. I wanted to clear some things up (so to speak! XD)

"Myth #1 Acne is caused by poor hygiene. If you believe this myth, and wash your skin hard and frequently, you can actually make your acne worse. Acne is not caused by dirt or surface skin oils. Although excess oils, dead skin and a day's accumulation of dust on the skin looks unsightly, they should not be removed by hand scrubbing. Vigorous washing and scrubbing will actually irritate the skin and make acne worse. The best approach to hygiene and acne: Gently wash your face twice a day with a mild soap, pat dry--and use an appropriate acne treatment for the acne."

"Myth #2 Acne is caused by diet. Extensive scientific studies have not found a connection between diet and acne. In other words, food does not cause acne. Not chocolate. Not french fries. Not pizza. Nonetheless, some people insist that certain foods affect their acne. In that case, avoid those foods. Besides, eating a balanced diet always makes sense. However, according to the scientific evidence, if acne is being treated properly, there's no need to worry about food affecting the acne. "

"Myth #3: Acne is just a cosmetic disease. Yes, acne does affect the way people look and is not otherwise a serious threat to a person’s physical health. However, acne can result in permanent physical scars--plus, acne itself as well as its scars can affect the way people feel about themselves to the point of affecting their lives."

"Myth #4: You just have to let acne run its course. The truth is, acne can be cleared up. If the acne products you have tried haven’t worked, consider seeing a dermatologist. With the products available today, there is no reason why someone has to endure acne or get acne scars."

^I disagree with your second myth, milk can cause acne to some people. And, as for myth #4, even if you use prescribed medications you can still get acne scars, depending on the type of skin the person has.

"Nonetheless, some people insist that certain foods affect their acne. In that case, avoid those foods."-From Myth #2

And of course people can still get scarring. If you have severe acne for a long time, you are most likely going to scar. Just because you suddenly go on medicine doesn't mean its going to go away.

By the way, I want to point out that this information came from an ACNE website. The information there has been written by professionals-"All content solely developed by the American Academy of Dermatology" . (Check the link I provided) This isn't just "whatever" information found on the internet. This is information researched and written about by professionls. happy.gif

Yea. Some people do tend to have reactions to certain foods. I wonder if its more like a food allergy then? O_O I myself have never had a connection between my acne and food, but I had a friend who did so, lol! XD Everyones different! ^_-

I NEVER had acne growing up but I had an explosion of it on my face starting from when I was 21 up until I was 22.

My hygiene was OCD-like (I never touched my face...ever, unless with freshly washed hands). I didn't even lean my head on my hand. I wouldn't even let my bf touch it.

My diet was spectacular (no junk, no dairy, fruits and vegetables 80%, low fat meat, no sweets, no white bread/rice)

My skin stuff was: expensive, nonallergenic, non-comedogenic, stuff for people with burns ffs.

Tried every nature trick: ACV, honey, vitamins, teas, herbs, etc.

Yet I still had it.

Then I went to the dermatologist and got a prescription for some common topicals, but they were associated in such a way that IN A MONTH I WAS CURED.

I'm so cured right now, I could eat crap, slather pig fat on my face, and sleep with my make-up, during PMS, and I don't even get a random pimple.

Please, please don't be stupid like me, and try to find some "fault of yours" for why you have it. It's a disease. Drugs cure it. Go to a doc, and spare yourself the extra misery and extra scars I had on my learning curve.
