It's my brother's reception this weekend. Any ideas for wedding presents? I don't want to be generic and be like everyone else and buy silverware or bedding sets.

They aren't registered anywhere? That's the best way to get something that they actually want.

They're registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and at Kohl's.

There's two places to start. Your brother's wedding shouldn't be about you being different but about them getting what they want and need. Also with registries most of the time if it's already been purchased then they take it off the list so other people don't purchase it. See, you're covered on both ends.

fredinsac is right. Going by the registry should be the way to go. You'll be assured of getting something they do want and you'll also be assured that nobody else will have gotten them the same thing.
But, there is a way you can be unique - if not original - with the gift you buy. On any wedding registry, there will ostensibly be that one and only item that is there for that one person to buy. So rather than being one of many that bought the couple part of a silverware set or one of many bath towel sets, you could possibly be remembered as that one wedding guest that got them the one and only gravy boat that they wanted, lol.

Personalized photo album. Engrave with names but no pics. And also something off registry is what I usually get, with a corney note about something they need and something gor them to keep their cherished memories to makebin their new life together.

My friend made a scrapbook of all their times during undergrad and grad school which was very sweet but also very time consuming!
Personalized wine glasses or champagne flutes, hand-made eco friendly stores have nice things for someone who is hardcore into that.
These were ideas from my roommates who are going to about a million weddings this summer so I heard from them.
Things that are made are one of a kind, but are time consuming just a week before the reception. Registries are the way to go!

this is a really good idea! i have to get a wedding gift myself, and i also didn't want to only get something off the registry. this is perfect, thanks!
The trick is in what one emphasizes.

My cousins wanted (and most definitely needed) cash/monetary presents.... or something along that line.
I stopped believing.

the photo albums are a great idea.
i got two different ones from two different people, and i filled up both. one for my family and one for my husband's.
very useful!
when all else fails we usually give the couple anywhere from $300-$500 (this is from my husband's culture, mainly). let em pick their own gifts, hehe.

I think its best to give them what they need most...my friend's reception in 2 weeks...and all she wants was money to help with her wedding...money may not be thoughtful...but if that is what they need...then why not...(nothing illegal of course)
