it's expensive if you try to buy it without a plan.

As long as the buyer is on a GSM Network,
he or she should be fine. [In the US]
You can sell the phone @ Gazelle or Flipswap too.

If the phone is locked to a network you can sell it to someone on that same network and they will be fine. otherwise they will need to have it unlocked and that can be a hassle.

without getting into specifics, gsm networks are those that use sim cards. simple way of putting it. But locked phones...those from the company and branded will not work with just any network. If you want to sell that, you'll need to find someone willing to spend money on a locked and branded phone.

honestly it's more trouble than it's worth since people would rather just buy unlocked phones.

Yeah others can use the phone if they have a t-mobile SIM card or AT&T if the phone is unlocked.

if you've been with t-mobile for a while, just e-mail them and ask for the unlock code before you sell it. tell them you'll be going out of the country.

or, as others have mentioned, just sell it to someone that's already on t-mobile and it'll be easier. if you're going to sell it to someone that's not with t-mobile and can't unlock it for them, the least you can do is lower the asking price.
