My mom has been really stressed out lately.
Her work requires her to sit in front of the computer all day and now she complains of back pains.
I see that her tail bone has enlarged/sticks out a bit and she says that's where it hurts the most.
Now she says that whenever she stands, it really hurts. D:
Her friend complained of back pains also but it cured after buying an inversion table and working with it for about 8 months.
So my mom decided to buy one too and see if it can help her case.

We bought this one from Costco:

My dad says it's supposed to stretch your body by using gravity and loosen up your bones or something.
My mom tried it for two days now, and she's afraid that it'll damage her ankles.
She says that whenever she finishes, her ankles hurt and it hurts to walk.
On the first day, she did it for about five minutes and she felt kind of dizzy, so we told her to stop.
On the second day, she did it for three minutes, took a break, and continued for a few more minutes.

So my questions are:
- Is there a way to cure my mom's problem?
- Will the inversion table be effective?
- Will the inversion table damage her ankles?
- How long should she used the table each day?

Thanks and I hope there's a way to help her! She's really suffering. ):

surely, you're the one

see a doctor before it gets serious sad.gif .

and if she slouches, tell her to sit up straight,
improving posture should really help -- i think

Well about the getting dizzy... it could just be blood rushing and stuff. I don't know much about it, but why don't you try get on the inversion thing, then get off quickly. You'd get dizzy too, no? Sometimes when I'm lying down and I get up fast, I get dizzy too. She could try improve her posture. That might help...

Anyways, see a doctor before it gets any worse. I don't know why her tail bone would be swollen in any way. And ask him about the inversion table.

haha yeah consult a doctor!
has she fallen on her bottom recently? because that might be the reason for the swollen tailbone.
also, i recommend she start taking calcium supplements if she doesnt already.
but yeah, see a doctor!

Tail bone sticking out?

I got my tailbone infected one time and it hurt like h**ll. I couldn't sit or walk but I had to because school doesn't care about those things. Your mom should see a doctor and maybe take a break a few times during work, strech and stuff.

this past december i had a lot of pain when i sat, and right before i went home for winter break, i saw that the end of my tailbone had this huge "knot" on it! ohmy.gif

i could only see it when i bent over, but my guess is that it came from sitting in an uncomfortable chair for a long time, then sleeping on a hard bed at night.

try having your mom sit on more comfortable things.
also, i don't think it's a good idea to exercise until it's completely healed.
mine took about 2-4 days.

even the plane seat was more comfortable than what i had at work dry.gif

[edit] if it is her chair, she can buy a little cushion to put on it. i think that the cushion is going to be a lot cheaper than that stretch thing...
i write an important thing, and do not let's finish. a way of writing for freedom.

Hi __ j a e `,

Sorry to hear about your mum's back pains. I'm not an expert but from what I understand the inversion table works on spinal/joint decompression.

- Will the inversion table be effective?
Inversion therapy seems to have worked for your mum's friend, however not everyone needs it. As others mentioned please make sure she does see a doctor or chiropractor if the situation is not improving. She can mention to them that she has the table and maybe they can give some futher suggestions about it too biggrin.gif

- Will the inversion table damage her ankles?
Unsure, but from the looks of it the ankles have some sort of padding around it? Maybe adding extra padding like towels for support will help.

- How long should she used the table each day?
From reading some online FAQ's about the table beginners should start off slowly ": invert for only 1-2 minutes during the first week or two until you become comfortable, and then work up to longer periods of time as you feel necessary."

The angle and length of time are related - the less of an angle you are at means the longer you can stay inverted.

"Beginners should start at a mild inversion table angle (approximately 20-30 degrees beyond horizontal) for the first few weeks until you become comfortable with the operation of the inversion therapy table and are able to completely relax while inverted."

So basically take it slow and listen to your body when using the inversion table smile.gif

The equipment should have come with some instructions of some sort, also look for some contact numbers if you have questions.

As a side note most places should have workplace saftey practices to prevent or help with OOS (occupational overuse syndrome). This means they have a moral and legal obliged to provide a healthy work environment.
