My definite favorite Japanese artist is YUI. I would recommend her a lot, but I guess it depends on what kind of music you like. Utada Hikaru's also a good artist. Then there's my favorite J-rock band Aqua Timez followed by Uverworld and Gazette (but their rock is a little more heavy). I would also recommend Mika Nakishima, Mai Hoshimura, and Yuna Ito. Of course, we musn't forget Tohoshinki ^^ (DBSK).
