So I have been and still am on the mission to lose weight I have gained and a little more. Last year, during the same time, I weighed approximately 120 pounds (standing at 5"3 & 3/4 or 162cm). I stayed like that up until September. September was when I joined cross-country running. I trained only once a week, and I started eating a little more than usual. However it was fine, because I was exercising. And all was going okay until october-november, when I stopped running and still ate excessively. By the end of march, I weighed 134pounds. and it didn't stop there. During the middle of May, I checked the scale again, and I was a whopping 136.8pounds.

The worst of it is that because of the large amount of weight gain in such a short amount of time, I had gotten stretch marks on my calves and thighs. NIGHTMARE!

So, grad was coming up (may28th) and I had little time to lose weight. Two weeks after I weighed 136.8 pounds. I dropped until I was 133.4, which made no difference. I hardly fit into my grad dress which fit me perfectly at the beginning of the year. I was so depressed. I had RED stretch marks all over my left calf. It was HIDEOUS.

Prom rolled up a month later(June 26), and I had gone down to 127.2pounds. This pushed me to lose more. So right now, I am 122.6.

I have lost in total, 14.2pounds, however, my stretch marks are still there(although they became slightly lighter)

What happens to the stretch marks after I've lost more weight? Do they stay? They are really ugly and I want them to disappear.
I heard stretch marks are there to stay. Is this true?

I know a lot has to do with age and skin elasticity and I've searched for answers, but they were all different.

Sorry to break it to you dear, but stretch marks never go away. They do fade into this silvery white color. Put cocoa butter on it and it helps to fade it a little. Don't worry, the same thing happened to me. I gained a lot of weight and now I have a LOT of stretch marks on my calves, thighs, and even breasts. Not really the most attractive thing, but no ones perfect happy.gif If it makes you feel better, most girls have them. Think of it this way, at least you don't have sagging skin. Congrats on the weight loss!

^ Yeah, they never go away. They only fade ; ; and they're like..shiny.
Don't worry, a LOT of people have them. I have them all over the back of my calves and thighs, on the inside of my upper arms, and tons on the side of my stomach. (I was quite fat when I was younger u_u;) but I don't worry about it anymore cause I've accepted it haha. Apparently cocoa butter and moisturizing would help though, but I've never heard of anyone's stretch marks actually disappearing, even when losing lots of weight.
Even skinny girls have them cause when you have growth spurts, they get them then also.

Plus when you're older and if you want kids you'll most likely get them too so its not a big deal imo. tongue.gif

Yeah, stretch marks unfortunately are permanent, but you can get them removed through surgery!! Which is probably not an option for you now.....lol. But, rub cocoa butter on them quick while they're still red!! I heard it really fades the stretch marks!! I heard Bio Oil also works!! There are plenty of threads on stretch marks with great suggestions from other soompiers. biggrin.gif I gained 17 pounds in a few months, so I got stretch marks all over my thighs. It's been about a year so far, and they've faded away, but it's still visible in bright sunlight. Don't worry, they're not really noticeable. Maybe you can wear stockings with your dress to hide your stretch marks or use a spray tan to make them the same color!?

damn, that makes me so depressed that they don't go away (but make me feel better that most girls have them). i also gained some weight since last year (not that noticeable to others, just to me) and got stretch marks the sides of my thighs on the butt. i guess it's not that big of a deal because it's in such a 'hidden' area, but i'm kind of self conscious to wear a bikini now (i haven't had a chance to wear one yet this summer). boo.

well look at the good news, it looks like you're loosing weight at good pace, just don't go any faster or you might have problems with loose skin.

good luck!

i hate stretchmarks =(

you gain weight, you get stretchmarks.
you lose weight, you get stretchmarks.

so when i lost like 20-30 lbs in one summer, i didn't know back then that you can get stretchmarks from losing weight really fast.. i lost a pound everday pretty much.. i did a lot of excercises and ate before a certain time.. and by doing this, i didn't drink lots of water.. i never really did before.. and i didn't put lotion on after i showered..

if your stretchmarks are RED, that means you should get LASER SURGERY when they are red.. if they begin to fade, i heard its harder to remove them.. i haven't tried it before so i don't know if it really works or not.. you can't get rid of stretch marks sadly, they just fade away though.. (even though you can notice them still.. ugh..) anyways.. google how to get rid of stretch marks permanently, there are different ways you can i think.. laser surgery being one of them..

cocoa butter lotion should help fade stretch marks away or prevent you from getting new stretch marks.
oh, and Vitamin E is good for your skin.. so try to take 1 Vitamin E capsule daily and also, i heard Vitamin E oil that you can put on your skin too~

kk i hope i helped!! ^^

OMG I have stretch marks from a growth spurt in grade 5, and from weight gain/loss 2 years ago.

Don't worry, almost every woman has them. Shea or cocoa butter will definitely improve them, but they're permanent.

Alotta girls/women have them T_T. (Same goes for cellulite lol...)
There really should be a wonderpotion to make them disappear forever.

Unfortunately they never go away ):
but it's normal to have stretch marks..
I have them on the inner part of my thighs,
I wish I didn't gain so much weight..
But I'm so happy that you were able to lose so much weight,
congratulations on your success ! (:

I hate stretch marks! They scar my body without bruising it, but One solution I know is to visit my dermatologist, I mean wherever it is located, I still consider it as a skin.

I have stretch marks on my thighs and hips and unfortunately I'm stuck with them. Bio-oil helps, massage it in every night and it helps fade them. You can also buy some scar treatments that help them but they only really work when they are fresh.

i have them on my inner thighs area....o.o
i'm so glad it's more of a private place, even more private cause i don't wear short shorts or short things and you'd probably never catch me in a swimsuit...

are yours really visible? cause mine have kind of blended in with my skin tone...i didn't even notice i had them until like...earlier.
