The only thing that helped me from the prep classes were the timed practice tests under real conditions. You don't need to shell out $2000 to help raise your score. The classes are quite useless. Just take a lot of practice tests under real timed conditions.

Do TestMasters if it's available near you. Nowhere near $2000, and I guarantee it'll raise your score. It really helps with the essay especially. After I did that prep course + a lot of practice test, I got a 2340.

I think as long as you have a good book or two (Princeton Review + Collegeboard's SAT book; definitely Collegeboard's SAT book!) and study hard every day, your score will automatically raise; you don't need to fork out that much money. The only thing SAT prep classes provide is motivation; if you lack the motivation to sit down and study for the SAT by yourself, the class is for you. Other than that, what they cover is pretty much what you can cover on your own for less the money.
That's what I'm doing right now. Take a practice SAT to see where your weaknesses lie. Understand how and why you made each mistake, then review the topic the question was on so you won't make the same mistake regarding that topic next time. Every day also study vocabulary for the SAT (http://www.soundkeepers.com/SAT/) and to help reinforce the vocabulary, Sparknotes has a SAT prep center where you can read for free four great books online that contains SAT vocab.
Sparknotes is also a great place for SAT help by the way! Their free SAT prep center is really awesome.
Good luck!
