I just bought a used car and I just had a question about license plates. The state I live in (California) requires a license plate on both front and back of the vehicle. The car I bought has no holes in the front to put a license plate and I was just wondering if I could attach the plate properly without drilling any holes into my car...

Thanks for the replies!

they haev those 3m industrial strength sticky double sided foam tape things, and that's about all I can come up with. I dont' think anything is more reliable than drilling the hole.

u should be able to purchase a bracket that can attach to the bumper without drilling from the dealer, or a local shop that can order parts from dealers.

Dealerships might be able to drill the holes for you...i remember someone actually complaining about that.

i didnt wanna drill a hole in my bumper and since my car is white, i bought white velcro, taped the velro to the bumper, and to my license plate, then i can stick on my license plate and remove it as i please.

pic is small but you get the idea:

this is what u do
get ur front license plate and smash it up with a hammer
put it in ur glove box
if u ever do get pulled over for it just show/tell the officer u were in an accident and ur plate was &$##$!$ up
but most likely unless u were being stupid or the cop has nothing better to do, u wont get pulled over

By law the if you brought from a dealer (new or used) they have to provide one for you.

Front License Plate Bracket

(1) The motor vehicle is equipped with a bracket or other means of securing a front license plate.

(2) The dealer obtains a signed written acknowledgment from the person taking delivery of the motor vehicle acknowledging both of the following:

(A) The person expressly refused installation of a bracket or other means of securing the front license plate.

(cool.gif The person understands that California law requires a license plate to be displayed from and securely fastened to the front of the motor vehicle and that the hardware necessary to securely fasten the front plate is available from the dealer.

you will get ticketed so fast for the license plate on dash in san francisco. all my friends have gotten that ticket. and why dont you want to drill holes to attach it? it's the cheapest quickest way to get that license plate on there. hope you get that fixed soon because tickets are not fun and also it's a hazard.
sadly, some people will never change no matter what you do.
