i don't know how many of you have seen 8 1/2, but federico fellini's film no less than one of the greatest films of all time and one of the few "classic masterpieces" i actually liked. the idea of the musical scares me enough, and rob marshall directing what is essentially a re-imagining or a sequel or a companion to 8 1/2 is bold and potentially sacrilegious.
having said that, the cast looks stunning. i mean, daniel day lewis, judi dench, sophia loren, marion cotillard, penelope cruz and nicole kidman? how many oscar winners and nominees can you cram into one movie? i'm surprised meryl streep isn't in the cast, basically. and daniel day lewis, who makes a movie every three years or so, learned italian and basically agreed to sing in this movie, which shows remarkable faith in the project. i love rob marshall and have thoroughly enjoyed all his past films (yeah, memoirs of a geisha rocked) and even films where he worked as a choreographer. i don't know, this can be brilliant or it can be a great disappointment, especially if it doesn't live up to fellini.
