If You Absolutely Had To Subsidize One Of Them, Which Would It Be: Education, Welfare, Or Health?

Education.
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
"Knowledge is power."
These quotes pretty much sum it up for me.

I don't think subsidizing education or welfare makes any sense....don't those come from our taxes already?

^ the way i understood the question was that if you had to pick only one to fund. I may or may be wrong about how the question was asked tho!

I think education is a right not a privilege. That being said I think the monetary repercussions are greater if there isn't some sort of health care subsidization. Just think of the fact that we have a large generation (baby boomers)moving into or already in elder status. There is also the matter of the increasing rates of obesity.

If we had to start from a clean slate and not consider our current situations, I would say education. Education feeds into the rest. Education provides us with the ability to earn more money which would cover the welfare side of things. Economic studies have shown that people who invest more in their education are more forward looking than others. This means that they end up healthier and take better care of themselves. That covers the health side of things. So I'd say education.

Hmm tricky.. If you don't have health (eg dying from cancer or some life-threatening disease) then what good would education be? But then if we didn't have enough education there'd be no doctors to treat you O.o
I'd have to go for health though, although ideally all 3 of those should be subsidized since they're all important. I'm SO grateful I live in a country where all 3 of those are a given >.< so many others aren't as lucky...

Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a night, light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Education, without question.
It's the greatest equalizer that all people should have access to. And it pays out directly proportional to how much you put into it.
Take a young kid with determination and give him education, and he'll rise regardless of where he started. Take a young kid who's lazy, and education gives him nothing. That's fairness.. that's equality.

There's a direct correlation between education and health. The more you know, the better you take care of yourself.
Edumacation it is.

Welfare a definite no for me.
At first, I was quite in the middle between health and education. While education may help us know better about our health and thus take care of ourselves better, it doesn't quite give us the tool to cure our ailments. Education is a privilege IMO. We absolutely have no idea why we humans exist, yet we keep on living and follow society's norms to blend in and feel more "normal" like most people, and that's why education is definitely a PLUS, but not something you definitely need, to be able to live "normally". Subsidizing education will be beneficial in the long run only, and by that I mean decades, at least. What we really need now is a stable health system that is easily accessible to the population, to people - who have absolutely not much control over their own health and thus, are slaves of our own bodies.
Between health and education, health is definitely the primitive need that we all look forward to. I'm not saying education is not important, but in other words - education won't be much worth if you don't have the health to study for it.
Health +1.
