There are shows that you will have to get used to to get into it or start to like. It takes a while or something until you think it starts getting good. Then there are other shows you will start liking right away because it had a good start. All that said, how do you decide that you are going to keep around with a particular series? When do you think about quitting a show? When do you think you will watch all the way through to an end of a show?

Most people don't like slow starts. They'll decide if they are interested in a series or not. For me, I try to see if I see any potential in the anime and what I might get out of it later to evaluate things. Anything the anime has that compels me I'll see through it to the end. I'll quit if I don't think I can go on.

hm, it's different for me a lot of the time.
generally, i see how many episodes there are.
(i normally don't like to watch long series since i get bored after a while)
however, there are exceptions (such as Naruto)
that i'm actually able to keep up with lol.
(it's not really overwhelming atm since it's basically something new every week)
but if i had to mass watch all the episodes, i probably wouldn't? XD
hundreds of episodes all at the same time would be tiring for me.

i generally like anime that starts out in an interesting way.
i'll watch a few episodes and if i'm really not feeling it (the pace doesn't pick up),
i'll probably drop it, and maybe come back to it later.
but, for the most part, a fast moving plot is good.
i mean, i wouldn't drop it RIGHT away,
but if i see no real progress after a few episodes,
and i can't take it anymore, then i would give up : P
i barely ever drop an anime on the first episode.. unless it's REALLY bad haha.

hm, there's a lot of series that have a lot of suspense.
these are sometimes good because it makes me want to see what happens next,
IF i'm interested in the storyline.
also, a lot of series are really funny so i'll watch to see what else will happen.
i tend to like anime with lots of action or mystery because it keeps it exciting.

when a new anime comes out, i'll read the description for it.
if it sounds interesting, i'll give it a chance. (:

i try to stick with everything i start if i can. something would have to be mind-numbingly bad or boring to make me stop. getting opinions from other people who are watching the same anime sometimes helps me decide whether to continue or not if i'm falling behind though. sometimes i'll just randomly stop for no real reason. i wouldn't call it quitting but more like putting it on hold for later. it's also easier for me to drop something if i know it's gonna be really long and i don't find it extremely compelling. probably the only anime that passes this test is one piece. overall, i think a 3 to 5 episode test is probably sufficient for most anime.

i am a very fussy person when it comes to anime...for i'll decide everything during the first five eps...if they are good i continue to watch but of course there are times when it gets boring through out the anime when that happens i drop it...for me everything is about first impression and because of that i have refused to bleach and death note because the beginning simply was engaging enough for me...i'm one wierdo
pretty what mizzxangie said applies to me too...but the main difference for me is that i've found myself starting an anime and about half way through the first ep i would drop it and that applies for half of the animes that i watch...
and another very important thing for me to stick to an anime is that i expect alot from them like the graphics(they have to be good),the characters heve to be appealing and the plot line has to be good...any anime that meets two of the points then i would give a try but sometimes i would still find myself dropping the anime...

i watch the first 5ish episodes, and if it keeps me interested, then i keep going. it can be slow but still have me interested...just has to interest me in some way =) and i'll also look it up, see what its rated or read some reviews about it to see if i should continue.

I search the anime/manga up on wikipedia and read about it... lol. Then I watch a few anime episodes and if there's a character or two I really like, I will continue to watch the rest of the series.

I watch the first episode, and if I can tolerate it, I will watch the second.
This process repeats until the final episode.

i have a four episodes rule. if it doesn't catch me by four episodes, then it's dropped. however, i let some animes slip through this rule especially when i know it's going to go better...until 6-8 episodes or so.

if, let's say, i used to like this anime then halfway it sorta fails to catch me anymore, dropping will depend on how many episodes there is left. if i decided to drop it when i've watched 16 of 25 episodes, i will continue to watch it ^^

my process is complicated, yes or yes?

If the first three episodes are completely boring. Then I search it up to see what happens next. If the spoilers make me more interested, I will start watching again but I may skip certain parts.

I see why there are some anime that aren't popular enough or go under the radar.

for a girl, i think that i have a weird taste for animes.

sowhut. the first thing that i search in an anime is the genre.
the anime CANNOT be: romance, magical powers, sports
the anime HAS TO BE: sci-fi, horror, suspense, comedy, and ok some fantasy but not too much

i like animes with serious stories, or something interesting/different.
i get tired of some magical things like WITCHES WHO BATTLE AGAINST THE DARKNESS
but i like KUROSHI.TSUJI because there's a demon!butler. wut?
plus i seriously love bloody animes.

i pay a lot of attention in how the characters were made.
and i don't like animes with 100+ episodes. i think the only ones i watched with soooo many episodes were inuyasha, pokemon, digimon and etc because because... THEY ARE KICKASS ANIMES AND EVERYONE GOT TO WATCH THEM. lol childhood rules.

I've been following Bleach since 2005. There have been rough times. But I have stuck with them and also been around for its good times.

I'll ask another question. How would you decide to go back for an anime you quit on?

I have my number of unfinished animes I believe.

For me, I think it depends on how interested I become in it. If I like it then I stick with it. If I find something I don't really like then I stop watching it unless I get bored enough and want to pick it up again.

+1 I do the same + depends on how active the torrents are of the anime I want to watch. Even If I like the anime I wont finish it if it is too much of a pain to download it. I dislike streaming anime online because I am a videophile.

For me its really the pacing. To me a episode should be like a 4 by 100m relay, especially if its a long driven series.
Also I was born in the 80's and so I have a preference for the old cartoon style where a episode was: plot, setting, main characters, and resolution. Thats why I like Detective Conan, Shin Chan, Air Master, and etc.

So overall I like straight to point animes, however, I'll watch a long one if 90% of the episodes are fulfilling.

lol theres a lot of way i decide to continue watching the anime although it might be draggy to hundreds of episode but the one way I end up watching an anime is because of the adaptation from the manga
This apply to almost every single anime i've watched except few (e.g. naruto)

Other than that is the fact I've watched the preview and find its awesome

and this is one way i rarely use, spoilersss

I can't stand really reallly long anime.
Naruto and Sailor Moon are very very good animes, and i recommend it, but for myself I've never finish the ending cause it's so LONG.
