x-X' if i were known to spend it all on things i don't need, yes.

they can have a say.
the can control it if i believe it's in my best interests.

but neh. it all comes down to communicating.

Well some people just spend it on mall stuff right away and can't control their spending.
That's what parents are for. Better off to spend it on needed items.

If your spending is out of control then yes, they have a right to have a say. My rents dont say anything about my money.

Well unless you're handing them the money, it's in your hands so you can do whatever you want with it.
I'm sure if you were spending money like crazy they'd say something about it, but eventually we all need to learn how to manage our own money.

Yes, depending on how and what you're spending it on (i.e. if you're blowing all your money on drugs or gambling, as an extreme example) .

How would they know what you're spending it on, anyways? Unless it was something extreme or big, I guess.

I think parents should be able to give you advice on how to spend your money. Y'know? Like saving it up, or buying on things you need more than wants. BUT if it's money YOU earned (like if you are the one that works,) then I think it's entirely up to you. I know a family where the girl works and her mother TAKES her money. O_O; And spends it on her OWN needs.. and the GIRL is the one who works and such.. it's a pretty bad relationship, though.. But yeah, I think parents should be able to tell you what you could and could not do, but even if you don't listen it is money you worked hard. Like if you wanted to buy a new video game with the money you worked so hard, and your parents tell you no and to buy a book instead I mean-- that doesn't seem exactly too fair, especially if you don't want a book. I mean you worked hard for your own money and you should spend it how you want. But if it's out of control spending, then I think you should really take your parents advice then. tongue.gif Parents can be quite helpful when it comes to managing money and things like that!!

If they can see that you're spending it recklessly.

they do have the right to suggestions.

But you should be old enough to know how to handle your money, right?

Oh God, I always have to hide away quickly all the stuff I have bought before my mom sees it. Because if I don't, she sees it and goes like "why are you spending so much money blah blah blah, why are you not saving blah blah blah..."
I mean, come on, I work like a slave, is it so bad that I buy some nice stuff for myself from time to time? It's not like I waste everything away or something, I always have some savings and manage my money well. So my mom's coments really annoy me mad.gif

Now, that I have ended my complaining, I just want to say that parents really shouldin't control money that their children earn themselves as it is just so damn annoying.

I feel that parents should not control your money, but instead give you constant reminders and USEFUL and REASONABLE suggestions.
they always tell me to save up ALL my hard-earned money. ...what?
Sig -- under -- construction.

your parents should give you suggestions on how you should use your money, but its completely up to you on what you're going to spend your money on. I don't think I'll tell my parents how much money I earn lol. I'll spend my money how I want to, but I do make smart choices like I save money for college, spend it on my car insurance, and use the rest on myself (shoes, clothes, travel, directing)
JUST show them that you can make smart decisions with your money and they'll back off (maybe not completely)
My hugs hurt, so close your eyes because the hug monster is coming your wayyy. rawr ; ]

TOTALly understand you. its not like you buy something every day rite??

and plus if we were wasting money...i think parents should let us find out for ouselves the lessons and responsibilities needed for dealing with money..

If you were gambling away the money or buying drugs or something stupid, then yes, they do have a say in how your spend your money.

But if it was something you've wanted a long time that was expensive and they say something like "what you waste your money blah" then no, the money is yours wink.gif

PS: Also depends on your situation eg. If you have to provide for family or if you have a mortgage. Simple things, but yeah, as long'as it's not blown out of proportion.

I'm rather conscious about my spending habits. In fact, they ask me why I don't spend more and contribute to the economy lol

Mine don't care. I can control how I spend so they don't say anything. They used to control how I spent my money, but after I started working they stopped
