Hi! So the new school year is starting soon (...well in 5 weeks or so) and my schedule for next year is already taken up, and it is as follows:
AP English 3
AP US History
AP Biology
AP Biology (2 periods)
Spanish 3
Math Analysis/Pre-Cal
Leadership
My school only allows us to take 7 classes, and these happen to be mine until the end of the school year. However, I don't know if I should take leadership as my an elective class (ap bio and spanish are my other electives) considering I want to major in journalism or psychology. I am planning on taking AP Psychology in Senior year because it's apparently full right now. And also, I did not take journalism for this year (sophomore year). And for senior year, if I take ap psychology and continue with leadership (because I plan on running for an ASB position and right now i'm a "dedicated pirate" - which is a term for those who are in leadership but aren't holding an official position), I wont have space for journalism at all. So I'm in a bit of a dilemma D:
leadership pros - 30 hrs. of community service a semester/60 hrs. a year, fun social activities, A COOL HOODIE(!!), an easy-going class with a final that isn't very stressing, friends, &yeah. not much of a hard class but some people end up getting grades less than an A.
journalism/newspaper pros - i like writing, the teacher is one (and possibly the only) of the english 3ap teacher so he'll probably favor you in english class, A COOL HOODIE (but the leadership one is cuter), friends, get to possibly interview other students for the newspaper, go to social events and write about it, your work gets published, supposedly an easy-going class as well.
So really, I don't know whether or not to drop leadership because eventually i hope to run for an asb position (next yr) and if i actually win, i am required to take leadership as a class for senior year which means i will have to drop journalism or ap psych in senior year.
senior year presumed schedule
english 4ap
physics
spanish 4ap
calc ab/ap
government/econ ap
ap psychology*/leadership*/journalism*
^ of the 3 i can only pick 2
what should i dooooo? oh, and sorry for being so hollow on the pros of each class... (meaning the hoodies, lol)

If I were you, I'd probably drop the ap psych and take one of the easier electives since it'll probably be easier on my gpa. After that I would choose the one I would be more certain that I would excel more in. Meaning if you feel confident that you'll get a position in leadership then take leadership. If you feel you can win awards or present honorable work in journalism then take journalism.
The most important thing is to focus on what colleges want in students. Rather than try and pick classes based on how "fun" it is, pick the classes that you'll excel most in. You'll have an easier time persuading colleges to accept you when it's time to apply.

honestly as an upcoming senior
i would drop any unnecessary UNweighted classes
they bring down your GPA if you happen to get straight As.
but since you want to major in journalism
i think its smarter to take the journalism class
GOOD LUCK!

You seem to like journalism more. And if you have time, you can volunteer somewhere else for community service hours. 60 hours in a year isn't much, like 1 hr a week? You can get that easily. Good luck in bio.. I just took it. You'll probably do good.

^ thankgs for the good luck xD hopefully i do good cause this guy i know got a 1 on the ap exam... i hope he was just flat out dumb or something. he had the same teacher that im getting next year...
ahh, i still don't know what class to choose... and i have to decide rather quickly because leadership has semi-mandatory meetings/decorations this week tomorrow-friday and it counts as part of our grade.
