I did the whole P90X workout for a few months and Ab ripper X was just one of the add-on after daily routine. Overall, the workout actually works for me because it's an entire body workout especially for arms and legs. The program workout is for 6 days a week and it works different area of your body everyday except for Sunday (rest day). Then the Ab ripper X is for every other day after the regular workout. However, I don't think Ab ripper X will work by itself because I did tried that at first and it didn't work. Maybe I just need a more intense workout. So if you really want a result, you can add different workout to the Ab ripper X unless you follow the whole P90X.

More is not better. I have done this program to try it out and it's enough, both in volume and in time. Without getting too much into the science of it, the body can only take so much continuously. Up to an hour is fine. And this is for the entire workout. This can lead to overtraining and injury. See this link for details http://www.weight-lifting-complete.com/. Too make the workouts more effective, make each set and each rep more effective. Mike Mentzer use to do one set per body part and was a champion bodybuilder with his HITT training.
So back to abs, treat it like any other muscle without overdoing it.

I have yet to see an average person that only works out 3 days a week on average or 4 come close to over-training. Not to disagree but throw in 2 cents on a side note!

The idea was presented of adding on more ab work after the ab ripper x. And if you have seen the schedule for P90x, the workouts are everyday for an hour and a half (one hour for the specified workout and another half for ab ripper x) So you are training six days a week with an active rest day on the 7th day. So My response for overtraining was based on the P90x workouts, not working out three times a week.
Plus you have to remember, you do work the abs indirectly on the other days you are not doing the bodyweight stuff. The Yoga day you do have the Ab Yoga workout, on kickboxing day you are working the abs with all the kicks and punches, and then you have the plyometrics which is a full body workout anyway. So that's a lot of ab work already.
So again, be careful when you add in extra workouts in a day. You need to also concentrate on the recovery and rest periods too. This is the part many people who workout forget.

I see my bad. haha. but as in any other muscle you really don't need to do so much for your abs. Don't forget your lower back too to avoid imbalances and injuries. =D
