I wasn't sure whether to put this in college or pre-college, but I thought college people would know better (:
Do you have to retake classes like World History and U.S History in college if you fail the AP exams? I know that you have to retake classes like Biology even if you get a 5 on the AP test if you major in biology, but does it apply to subjects that aren't related to your major?
Thanks in advancee!

If you don't receive credit for the AP exam (usually a 4/5), then yes you do have the retake the class. but only if you want to retake it. You don't necessarily need world history to complete your general education requirements.
And if you get a 5 on the AP bio exam you don't need the retake the class, at least not at my school. However, most people myself included want a refresher course and decide to take it anyways.

It depends on the individual school whether they will accept AP credit to waive you out of a class. Usually, as long as you get a 3 or better on the test, you can get elective credits but it doesn't pass you out. Generally, a 4 or 5 on a test can waive you out of a class, but you should check the school's website and see which tests they accept.
General requirements are general intro courses every student has to take in addition to their major requirements to provide a well-rounded education. GEs vary from school to school in the exact classes you have to take, so again, you should look on the individual school's website.

at UCs and some other competitive schools ((not sure which ones)) the AP calc, AP bio, AP chem classes (etc. ) don't make you exempt from taking the course anyway. don't feel disappointed that you failed them but remember that the actual courses can be more difficult than the way they teach them at the HS level (even if it is an AP course).
At least you have a taste for how the exams in college will be, and good luck + no worries!
o yea...and I got a 3 in my AP Lit class but it still counted toward something...I just don't remember what it was.

Yes. some universities take a 3 if you got that on AP exams. Others require a 4/5 in order to receive the credit for the equivalent course. It all depends on your school. Talk to a GE advisor early so that you don't waste time retaking classes you don't need or not taking the right classes when you should have. You will be glad you took care of things early in your college career.
I took 4 AP classes in high school and passed them all with 3s and 4s. My school took all the scores and I managed to get rid of about 21 units worth of classes, which saved me a whole semester. it made some of my college load a little easier and now i get to graduate a semester early.

I think it was mentioned before but general education requirements are basic or fundamental classes that everyone has to complete. However, you do get to choose the class you want to complete the GERs. Most of them will be tagged or labeled so that you can tell "completes math education requirement". It's up to you to choose calculus I or Introduction to probability and statistics or whatever suits your taste.
it depends on your college what the GERs are.

It really depends on your school. If it's not part of your major, most likely it's covered by your AP scores if you get a certain score. Sometimes they don't cover your core courses and you will have to retake the class, but this is dependent on your school.
The score you get also determines what kind of credit you get. you can get either full credit or just extra curricular credit.
