So what I'm wondering is, what have your parents said about dating such that they don't allow dating before a certain age?

I.e., my parents have said that dating will ruin my studies in high school...yet if anything, it has helped >.>

Anyways, I'm just curious to hear about what other statements your parents have made about dating, if your parents don't allow dating before a certain age.

People with parents that allow them to date at any age, feel free to comment here and give feedback & answers to any questions other users may have smile.gif

My mom said I couldn't date until I was 18. I moved out at 17 and it wasn't a problem anymore. My dad lives in another state, so that really isn't an issue.

like any evil villain does, she scoffed and ignored him. :D [sometimes she'd backlash dramatically/comically "Who are you looking at when you say that????]

_ i guess she was pretty much thinking "not how i would've put it.."

I remember this talk. It went a little like this.
Me: "Dad, what would you say if I started dating?"
Dad:"You'll get distracted blah blah blah. . . bad grades. . . boys don't know how to treat a girl"
My mum butts in and says:"She's not old enough to date but we can't stop her, as long as she gets good grades"
Then my dad adds "OH YOU MUST NOT EVER DATE CHINESE, KOREAN, VIETNAMESE OR JAPANESE."
Me: "dad that doesnt leave much of an option, its not like i'd MARRY THEM"
Mum: "You can date anyone but no marrying someone not rich/good looking/can provide"

MY parents are shallow biggrin.gif

My mother said that we didn't suit each other,
and that I'm too good for him ):

yet me and my boyfriend has been together for 9 months.
I hope she'll give us her blessings.

LOL I love how parents are like this.

In high school: "It's going to ruin your studies"
In college: "You should start looking for someone now else you're not going to get married"
After college: "OMG you must find someone right now else you wont have stable future/blah blah"

Like wth...I didn't have a chance to develop my social skills during hs...=(

My parents never said anything, really. They would probably have liked to see me have a boyfriend at least once, actually (they still don't know that I've actually dated before, but not because I had to hide it). As long as I didn't get pregnant or pick a really horrible guy, it would have been fine with them. The only time they would have said I shouldn't date is if I'd gotten too wrapped up in some guy and neglected my studying in high school, but they didn't even have a clue when I was seeing people and my grades were all fine, so it was never an issue that even needed to be addressed. Now that I'm in college my mom asks me if there's anyone special every couple of months or so with a really hopeful tone. sleep.gif

Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

Jokingly they have said in the past "No dating until you're 25+!". xD

But they have seriously spoken to me about. They said that they can't help if I fall in love or whatever, but it shouldn't affect my studies.

(mother discussing my boyfriend/dating)
"he's your friend, right? friend is good. just stay friends. you're too young to date. concentrate on studies."

she suspects. oh well. i'm hoping she just comes out and says it's okay one day.

for my two older sisters, it's different. my sister told me she said these things to them while i was out one day:
"why don't you have a boyfriend, huh? you need to dress more sexy!"

this is all very funny to me since my sisters are 2 and 4 years older than me. we're all in college, too.
