for someone from my birth state you really like ignoring the advice given in the fitness thread haha ~ sleeps essential - besides suffering from short term memory problems the more you practice minimum sleeping habits at such a young age yes you have stunted your growth.

Sleep is the only time your body and mind can actually repair and rebuild and utilize the resources you have gathered ( what you have eaten ).

Google : Long term effects of sleep deprivation, lack of sleep + effects

Here is a random link ~ http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/1999/...91025075844.htm

Search term : lack of sleep, long term effects

But yes go read up on research studies from the last 5-10 years should be enough information for you to learn about it.

so if you lose sleep, say for a week,
you can't go and try to fix your method
and continue growing the right way?

dang -.- aww im going to be 5'3 forever D:

Are you male or female? If you're female, you've probably finished growing whether or not you change your sleeping habits now . I think sleep deprivation mostly has an effect when you're young enough to still have growth spurts.

hell yeah
it's the thyroid that secretes your growth hormones
it only happens after your first 1-2 hours of sleep or when you start to REM
irregular sleeping patterns definitely screw it up as well

I'm only 5'5 and 18yearsold

I guess it is true. Sleeping does a good role on your daily life, your body needs atleast 8 hours of sleep. I've been lacking sleep these days due to hot weather + mosquitos. Makes me uber tired.

*sigh* Guess I'll never be the 5'7" I wish to be...I sleep at midnight every single night (except for maybe during school, in which case I sleep at 10)

I have a question...is it just LACK of sleep or WHEN you sleep?
Becuase I sleep really late..like 2-3am nowadays since it's summer, but I get around 8-10 hours of sleep everyday.

Does that mean I've stopped growing? I'm hella short..like 5'1 lol:(

I really don't think you'll be growing anymore . . . but I think a constant lack of sleep can stunt childhood growth. Not that it's something you have to really worry about now!

LOL. I admit that I usually don't get enough sleep and I have extremely irregular sleeping patterns. But sleeping at least 8 hrs/day probably wouldn't have changed much for me. I'm 4'10"~4'11" and 17 years old. I blame most of it on genes and being born 1 month premature. I consider myself luckier than my older sister who's ~1 inch shorter than me. I'm also taller than my mom by a bit. ^^
But dang, if only. I mgith've been able to grow that extra 1~2 inches to get to 5' xD

exercise regularly and push yourself hard so that when you go to bed it feels like your sinking into a cloud!

As long as you get at least 8 hours of sleep, its okay right? Like, it doesn't matter WHEN you go to sleep, as long as you get it?
