i've tried this before, for two consecutive nights, but then i stopped because the second night i could not sleep at all! it felt so uncomfortable and i kept waking up.
does anyone else follow this diet 'rule' ?

I don't follow the after 6pm no food at all spiel because first of all I usually don't sleep until very late so thus if I did follow that rule there is a good 6 - 8 hours that I am not EATING! That is just not naturally nor healthy!
For the record I have successfully lost weight by NOT following such rule
I actually drink a protein shake (slow digesting casein) 30 minutes before I go to bed.

for me, after dinner is when all eating stops.
until then, i drink water till my next meal, the next day.
but anyway, sleeping on an empty stomach is not good.
because food is all you'll be thinking about.
and that's just torturing yourself. LoL!

bit before 12. x_X' many times i just try to fall asleep to cure my hunger. lol.
_ o0' the only times hunger ever bothered me was when i didn't eat for 32hours, or didn't have breakfast. other than that, i can just ignore it.

iv been doing this since i was born and i find it uncorforatble to sleep only a few hours after dinner.
i dont think it really works, not saying that im fat, but alot of skinny girls eat alot later and there fine. i think u should just not sleep right after u eat. give it 3< hours i guess.
if you wanna keep this up and see if it works for u, eat bannana. other fruits are acidic and make u more hungry

Not only that, but if you go for more then 4 hours without food (except sleep) your body switches to starvation mode. So the next time you eat something, your body, instead of nourishing you, actually FIRST TURNS IT INTO FAT, and only then, if you eat even more, quenches your hunger and gives you energy. So you wake up with a HUGE hunger, and whatever you lost in the previous day, you're gonna be ravenous the following day and gain fat even if you eat normal calories.
However, I sometimes feel a bit sluggish if I overeat for a couple of days, and to "reset" the damage, I rearrange my calories to be breakfast-centric, exercise in the morning to punch my metabolism into gear, and so I have a very light dinner (200-300 cals) 3-4 hours before sleep (that dinner at 8 PM), and when I wake up in the morning my stomach is back to flat, and my weight is back to normal. That's because exercise in the morning ramps up your metabolism for 24 hours (so I burn fat during the night). The dinner is light, so the body is forced to burn fat especially, and the big breakfast fuels me for a longer exercise session, and reduces hunger throughout the day.
But remember, NEVER more then 4 hours between dinner and sleep!

shadowmax- i think everyone is different though. if that is your lifestyle and it doesn't bother you, then you should be fine. because i'm trying to force myself to not eat after 6pm, my body is reacting since its not used to that. i mean there are people out there who don't eat breakfast and function fine during the day, while there are those who go out of wack when they skip breakfast.

If i'm hungry, i drink a glass of milk. It fills me up, in a healthy way and i'm able to sleep.
But yeah i don't eat after dinner.

agreed.
going to bed hungry is not a good idea. causes health problems AND slows down your metabolism. generally the idea is to not eat 2-3hours before you go to bed. you don't want to go to bed hungry, but rather satiated. (sorry..it was my word of the day >_>)

wow, that's interesting stuff. the 'digesting ur stomach' part uhh scares me cuz ive been following this no eating after a certain time for sometime within a year now & i sleep late.
i only eat late dinners when we go out & stuff. other than that, i'm really stuck to not eating after 6-7, i drink a lot of water after that.
