so i was at the SF consulate to pick up my visa to go to Korea...and i needed to park. It was in a residential area that had a sign that said that 2 hr. parking was allowed between the hours of 9am to 4pm. i parked my car at 2:30pm, was gone for 10 min., and when i come back and the meter maid hands me a ticket. she didnt even give me a reason why because she was talking on her phone as she drove down the hill (is that even allowed?)

anyways, i'm looking at my ticket...it said that i violated T315.A which is for the residential permit parking. and then for a description of the violation she checked "no dp" and "u/a"

i'm guessing that "dp" is for disabled parking, but it's a residential area. there was no sign that designated a separate area for cars with disabled stickers. and whats "u/a"??

i heard that i can contest this ticket for missing my VIN information...has anyone tried this?? can someone decipher this citation for me?? do i have a chance at contesting this ticket?? unsure.gif

I think the DP part designates that you don't have a disable placard. If you had one, i'm not 100% sure, but you would be exempted from 2 hour residential parking.

You can contest the ticket, but you would need to find someway to prove that you only parked there for 10 minutes, not 2 hours and 10 minutes. Thats the only real way I can figure how you can contest it.

3500 Clay? Where exactly did u park? (i.e on what block in front of which house)

I would contest it. total BS ticket. You're allowed to park in a residential area in the spot for 2 hours. You don't need a permit. The permit is for residents there that would like to park there all day so that they don't have to move their car every 2 hours.

Most meter maids mark your tire with chalk. But not all of them do.

They make their rounds, and will usually come back in an hour and mark your tire twice so that when they come back and see 2 marks, they'll give u a ticket. But like I said, not all of them mark your tires.

If you were parked in a handicap zone then be lucky you had only a $63 ticket and not a $250+ ticket (the dip at a sidewalk intersection counts as handicap space as well for wheelchair access)

go to court and try to contest it. but what i'd do is just pay it to avoid the hassle.

i parked on locust/clay. i didnt realize that there were disabled spaces.... but i parked on locust between two cars already parked. no dips. i wasn't even on the sidewalk but very close (within the 8" range)

and i cant go to court. i leave for korea in 4 days... i think i'll send in my protest form, then leave a check for my mom to send in, just in case...
i heard that sf is notorious for rejecting claims..

well if u parked in a handicap zone...

as for contesting it, all you do is send in a written letter to protest it. Don't send in payment if you want to protest. Just read the back of the ticket it'll tell you what to do.

Wow, I was watching a new segment last week about this. Supposedly, SF is becoming really strict on parking and many stores are losing businesses because so many customers are getting tickets.

SF tried to save money by reducing weekly street cleaning to every other week, but the plan backfired on them. Because the revenue generated from street cleaning tickets has dropped significantly lol

They are actually looking to go back to weekly street cleaning for some areas again.

Lately, people are getting tickets left and right. Now it's $2/hr in those parking meters, I rather park in parking garages since it's only $1.25/hr and I won't get a ticket if I'm 1 minute late.

FYI, you dont need a visa to go to Korea if you're staying 3 months or less.

I'd contest if you've got time.

wait, if you parked on the street, why is there stuff about a disabled placard. and also, are there any documents that you might have signed at the visa place that might have a time stamp? or do they got security cameras? i would definitely protest it cause what if the cop was being a douche and needed to fill his quota and was picking on random cars.

and @ what 1love said. i dont know if you know, but parking lot rates in sf run at around $3 for HALF an hour. sometimes even more.
sadly, some people will never change no matter what you do.
