Because it's "JUST" Peca.
Once again, Leafs sign players who were onehit wonders before their injuries.
Hey Peca and Darcy Tucker on the same team... Anyone remember during a playoffs game between Toronto and the Islanders with that big dirty hit Tucker landed on Peca that left him out for like a year with knee injuries?
O ya lol. Man, they really hated each other on the ice.
Some idiot in the canucks board was saying Minnesota is a better city where stars are made. I mean, if you look at British Columbia(exepcially in the GVRD). You can see who played and were from British Columbia
Joe Sakic-Burnaby
Brendan Morrison-Coquitlam
Steve Yzerman-Kamloops
Rob Brindamor-Cambell River
Paul Kariya-North Vancouver
Willie Mitchell-Port Alberni
etc etc
Then people from Minnesota are, Phil Kessel, Eric Johnson. That is all I can think of. But you can't say Minnesota produced more stars then British Columbia
Stevie Y is from Ottawa, Ontario
Minnesota has good players,
Rod Brindamour's home is Campbell River yes, but don't forget he's born in Ottawa. & I doubt Willy Mitchell is considered a star by any stretch of the imagination
Alberta has produced better players than B.C. I know I'm forgetting some other big name players. 5-6 Hall of famers and future hall of famers below. Although QUEBEC AND ONTARIO probably have the best teams ALL TIME! wow, at least Alberta's All time team can Compete with two of the greatest skating d's that have ever laced up skates, and some great goalies, Don Cherry said Grant Fuhr was one of the greatest so yea, at least Alberta could compete with a goalie and team defence, plus leadership from iggy and the moose. Good enough team, who's in b.c.'s net again?
Paul Coffey - Hall of Famer, greatest skating defenceman of all time
Mark Messier - Hall of Famer, the greatest leader the game has ever known.
Jarome Iginla - Art Ross, Maurice Richard winner, Olympic champ, Greatest black/half black player ever already, potential Hall of Famer
Scotty Neidermayer - Future hall of famer, winner at every level, great skater
Brian McCabe - don't know why I threw him in here
Mike Vernon - Conn Smythe, Hall of Fame nominee
Cam Ward -Playoff MVP 2006
Shane Doan -team canada
Ryan Smyth - team canada
Grant Fuhr- Another Hall of famer, and great Alberta goalie...who does B.C. have in net, as good as our backups?
Kevin Lowe - Hall of famer, great stay at home D
McCabe is def not in Alberta lol. His home is in Ontario and Long Island o_O. And...you listen to Don Cherry?
Only other player from Minnesota I know is Phil Housley.
Ontario players pwn j00!
A brief history on some mentionable hockey players from Ontario from recent decades.
Todd Bertuzzi - Sudbury
Jason Allison - North York
Dave Andreychuk - Hamilton **
Jason Arnott - Collingwood
Rob Blake - Simcoe
Brad Boyes - Mississauga
Anson Carter - Toronto
Jonathan Cheechoo - Moose Factory
Paul Coffey - Weston **
Kris Draper - Toronto
Ron Francis - Sault Ste. Marie **
Doug Gilmour - Kingston **
Wayne Gretzky - Brantford **
Curtis Joseph - Keswick
Ed Jovanovski - Windsor
Eric Lindros - London
Manny Legace - Alliston
Bryan McCabe - St. Catharines
Keith Primeau - Toronto
Chris Pronger - Dryden
Jason Spezza - Mississauga
Brendan Shanahan - Mimico
Eric Staal - Thunder Bay
Joe Thornton - Thunder Bay
Marty Turco - Sault Ste. Marie
* retired but kicked ass on the scoreboard
Most Canadian NHL stars are from Ontario and British Columbia, with the latter mostly from Quebec in recent years.
Considering how Canadian NHL players outnumber American 3-1 and with the number of Canadian stars we've have and had, I don't get how Minnesota could produce better stars...
Born in Ottawa then moved to Campbell River for the rest of his childhood.
Coffey and McCabe are both from Ontario, not Alberta. Coffey was born in Ontario and played in the Ontario Hockey Association before playing in the NHL. McCabe grew up in Ontario until he became an eligible to play in the WHL.
Yes, we all know Ontario is the best lol. We currently have the best overall team out of everyone. Quebec is good too, but they have crappy Defence lol. Just try to make their 3 pairing D, it isn't pretty.
Also from Minnesota is the former Flame, Jordan Leopold, not too shabby...also the great great Neal Broten from the miracle on ice is from there, I know the reason they think they are so great is due to their GREAT program there, even sidney crosby played in their program for a bit, so did many other great players who aren't actually born there, perhaps the poster on canucksboard blurred the line between born and played in their great programs. Pheonix coyotes and ottawa each have a couple recent drafts from two or one year ago from minnesota as well. NHL scouts love Minnesota's program.
Jordan Leopold is like a 2nd pairing D who has potential to be a 1st pairing D. His main knock on him are that he is wayyyyy too soft. I mean he's good, but nothing to brag about. Kessel isn't even in the NHL yet and your already labeling him a superstar =\. Minnesota does have a pretty good program but i believe you are referring to the NPDT. This year, many American players came from that program including 1st overall draft pick Eric Johnson. I think the program you said Crosby was in was the Mary Shattuck's hockey program...
finally some real news to talk about.
Neil smith out as islanders GM... GARTH SNOW in as new GM.
this is just crazy! i'm glad i'm not an islander fan.
Garth Snow was like their back up...last year lol. o_O but, wow Mad Mike and now Garth Snow just...GL Islander fans...gl...

Okay, moderator mr. Chancellor, I don't want to start another fight here okay i'm just going to make a rebuttle...Well mr. aznbanana, as your not from Calgary, you obviously don't know how much people talk about Bryan Mccabe being a Calgarian at heart ok. They Do! And for reference purposes, I went to NHL.com and found the transcripts of his Live NHL CHAT session, wherein he promulgated the following:
" Question: What team did you support/root for as a kid?
Bryan McCabe:
Calgary Flames because I grew up there and love Calgary. I still have a lot of friends and family there. It's fun to play them. "
quote unquote... THE QUOTE OF THE CENTURY>>>>PURE GOLD FOR AZNBANANA OUT OF MCCABES OWN GOD FORSAKEN MOUTH...heheh sorry lol, I don't mean to offend u my nice friend, but don't lol me again in a condescending way. He has a cottage near Calgary too, can't find the link right now, but I'll search.
As for Leopold, whatever your smoking pass that is some potent stuff, must be the same stuff Bush is on! If you actually watch Calgary, or hockey in general, any non-casual discriminating observer would concur that Jordan Leopold is not a soft defenceman. That has never been a knack on him in Calgary. He paired on Calgary's number one D pairing last season with Reghier following the demise of Hammer and Phaneuf down the stretchdrive. Leopold is not soft at all, he is in the mold of Zarley Zalapski, he doesn't necessarily lay out the hits but he plays the body, pins you on the wall, has great leg strength (sutter said he had tree trunk legs), he's slick etc. He's a poor man's Mattias Ohlund in terms of style of play. Just, because a d doesn't go around hitting like those Goon d's, doesn't mean he is a softy. You need to buy the CENTER ICE PACKAGE and watch his game more closely buddy. Ask anyone in Calgary. This guy, Leopold has a degree in Psychology from Minnesota, he's a smart guy, he actually has brains unlike most of the hockey players who go around taking needless penalties, he utilizes his above average leg strength, good size, and positioning to control the opposition. Just because he doesn't grab a guy by the collar and throw him to the wall like Denis Gauthier on Sami Kapanen doesn't correlate to Leopold being soft. Like I said, being soft has never been a knack on him. He was runner up for the Hobby Baker award as top collegiate player once, and Sutter gave him away grinding his teeth saying, "you have to trade value to get value", he's a top 3 d for sure, number 2 with the right guy, but more to the point, I'm actually only lamenting your point about him being a soft defenceman. Calgarians know he's not, and for that matter so does any legitimate hockey observer. And if u still don't believe me, I invite you to any Calgary hockey forum online and just post that nonsense and see what people have to say, it's just not true simple as that.
P.s.: for the record, no where in my comments, did I remotely mention the name PHIL KESSEL, so don't wrongly quote me saying I said he was a SUPERSTAR, because as anyone can see I did not even mention him, get your facts straight, another person was the one talking about PHIL KESSEL! Oh...haha where are my manners, have a good day there champ!
it seems like ur nitpicking with the Don cherry, the wrongful Phil Kessel debacle, then the mccabe comments, after I already admitted defeat to will.i.am regarding coffey. Also is it my fault that Kevin Lowe has been nominated a few times for the hall of fame by like minded people. Don't ridicule.grow up already sport! and yea, u were right i was mentioning the Shattuck St. Mary program, except it's not the Mary Shattuck program u stated, thought I'd mention it while were on the topic of nitpicking, and sounding like we know everything about hockey. It's not a war of who knows more about hockey okay, it's obvious I do, so just calm down, and stop nitpicking, if u have a legitimate civilized comment to make i will listen and respond in kind, like i did to will.i.am's earlier post. Join us in civilization champ before the mod gets involved again. I don't wish to make an example of you again. please calm down for yuna and the other girls of soompi nhl if not for me and the civilized world!

Leopold is not soft. When you think of Leopold, think Toni Lydman. They are both very similar players. True, they are not dominating physical forces but they can hold their own. Leopold is 6'-2" over 200 lb. There is a lot of muscle there.
The main knock on Leopold is that he's an offensive defenseman who can't score. He's surprisingly developed into a reliable stay-at-home defense on the top pairing with Regehr so that's a good thing. He's not the stereotypical softie and the one-dimensional player like a Phil Housley or anything.
Glory is forever

i will admit where I am wrong, made the mistake on Coffey, but McCabe considers himself a Calgarian, I know that for sure, because he has a home here, and his brother lives in Calgary too.
He and his wife live on Long Island... you could call him a Yankee even. Fact remains that his roots started in Ontario and that he didn't grow up in another province like Brindamour right away.
lol, garth snow just retired like a couple years ago. He might not be the GM they are looking for. Neil Smith was only GM for like 1 month.
He just retired this year
Neil Smith was fired cause of problems between him and other people on the NYI staff, including head coach Ted Nolan, senior advisier Pat LaFontain and player development director Bryan Trottier.
"As I made clear at the press conference last month, we are running this as a business, incorporating the opinions of our hockey operations staff - including Ted Nolan, Bryan Trottier and Pat LaFontaine," said Wang. "Despite Neil's commitment to me that he could work in this environment, he later expressed to me on a number of occasions his philosophical opposition to our business model.
(basically he was being an ass to the rest of the staff)
Who knows, maybe Snow will do something good. Although I agree with all of you that he's a bad choice considering he has no management experience and JUST retired as a player.
Stevie Y is from Ottawa, Ontario
No, no, he is from British Columbia.

Peca officially a Leaf for 2.5mil 1 yr
what's with arguments on where produces the most talents
does it really matter if Bryan McCabe was born in Ontario, grew up in Calgary and now lives in the US?
anyways, I haven't been keeping up with hockey news lately, I feel kinda lost now =S

Thats exactly what i thought, i mean think of all the crap his wife had to take when he didn't resign. People thought he was gonna go back to Long Island to his home to please his wife, not to Calgary
Who knows, maybe Snow will do something good. Although I agree with all of you that he's a bad choice considering he has no management experience and JUST retired as a player.
No, no, he is from British Columbia.
Hmm, pretty sure he was born in Ottawa. Anyways, ddi he live there after birth or somethin? bleh imma check
Yes, i know i got the name order wrong wrong of the Shattuck St. Mary's afterwards when i checked but w.e, not like its that big of a deal. The message still got a across. One more thing, i didn't say anything offensive or agressive to you at all. Your making this such a big deal with this air of superiority your trying to send.
And honestly, before we make which province has better players, we gotta make guidelines or this debate of who lived where or born where is gonna go on endlessly =\. Imagine if Pat Quinn was hired instead lol, we should've traded Domi back to him to play with Cashin lol and get a young prospect back =).

To be a good NHL goalie, you have to have or be
Very fit
Have quick lightning reflexes
Have good lateral movement
Good leg strength
Flexible as a twig
etc etc
I dont think a Sumo Wrestler has any of those other then leg strength.
