I know in asian standards that I'm not considered thin, in fact, I'm far away from that (So my aunties and uncles tell me >___>)
They always compare me to my cousins and say things like "Ohh you've gotten so much fatter. Need to stop eating so much" and it really hurts me badly. I'm already self conscious of my body image.
Btw, I'm 5'3 and about 117 pounds. Oh and I'm only 15.

My friends always tell me that I'm not fat, and that I'm average, but I think they might be lying...I dunno X_X I just can't look into a mirror without feeling fat anymore T_T

So my question is, am I really that fat? I keep getting told different things, and I just don't know anymore.

I'm a bit embarrased to put my picture up about it, but I will, otherwise you won't really know if I am or not...Thanks...

(Please excuse the fact that I've only got one shoe on tongue.gif)

i know it's hard to ignore your family, but you have really got to try. based on BMI, your body weight/type is average. also, your legs look great albeit a little thin (and that's a good thing, no?). i can relate to your situation, though. i'm 2" taller and my max weight was 115 lbs. and when i got there, my mom told me to start hitting the gym. i was still a size 2-4 for Christ's sake! mad.gif

That's the weight I'm aiming for -117-118.
So if you're in my ideal range, it means you're perfectly fine.
And I'm 5'2 and a half but I look 5'4 for some reason.

Ignore relatives. My cousin had said some things that still makes me annoyed to this day lol.
But you seem to totally look fine anyway. Don't be too self conscious.

Just go running 3-4 times a week, do 20-30 minutes a day of bodyweight exercises : squats, lunges ( and their countless variations ), pushups, jumping-jacks, etc

Then practice the asian art of : ***BIG SMILE*** EMPHATIC CHEERFUL **

" YES, IM ON IT! I'm working out on the regular!! "

In one ear out the other and take care of your own business ~ Relatives and family will always go on and on - just take it as a challenge and look better then them all in dresses and at the pool and family gatherings! The end.

For example : I heard @J@#JAsjdfasjdfijef - and I just smile nod and get on with my day! Does wonders when you don't let nonsense get to you.

You look fine to me! You shouldn't worry about what your relatives say, if you want to eat then eat, just do some regular exercises and you'll be fine. :]

You're not.. fat.. Have you checked the BMI calculator? BMI = Body mass index. http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ Type in your height and weight and it'll show you the healthy range. You're pretty much in the healthy area. So don't let it get to you so much.. I don't know what your family tell you those things.. Do you have to be like 90lbs if you're Asian? Isn't that kind of underweight? You and your family should be accepting the way you are, even if you are in the healthy, average range which is apparently bad..? Eh-- don't worry so much! You look fine, you aren't fat at all. If it really bothers you, you can tone your body. Stretching, workouts, etc. But good luck!

Ah, relatives, parents etc are always pointing out flaws.
Mine always tell me that I'm getting fat too, but I don't really mind. I just don't listen to them and nod as if I'm agreeing xD

Your legs are thinner than mine. When I get the chance, I'll upload /my/ legs. No one thinks I'm over-weight though, except my Mum, who has no qualms bargining into the showers and seeing me naked and all my fatty glory.

I think it's important you keep healthy. As long as you are, no matter what body shape you get out of it, at least you know it's healthy and that you can be pleased with it. The world's too fickle to try pleasing. You become one thing and the next thing you know, they want another.

You're not fat. Your family is overly obnoxious about your weight, even more so than most Asian families. Your cousins must be twigs if they think you're fat.

Well..we didn't see the other half of you're body. But judging on the half that you did post up, there's nothing wrong there. Perfectly normal and fine. If i saw something like that on the street I wouldn't even think twice about it...just treat it as a normal sized person passing by. Nothing wrong smile.gif

Nope, DEFINITELY not fat. I'd call you skinny. I'm taller then you and weigh less and my legs look fatter then yours. And most people call me skinny.

That's really sad, geez. I hate reading posts here that say their families make fun of them or say they're fat when they're clearly far from it... no, you're not fat at all... just try not to listen to them, ok? Besides, you're only 15 and your body is changing a lot right now. It's normal.

I know that alot of Asians have issues with body image because of what their relatives have said. And I'm not trying to sound mean, because I've been through it too, but let's be real. If you look up your BMI, you're healthy, and you can clearly see that you don't need to buy large clothes, isn't it pretty obvious you're not fat? Don't let relatives get to you. There are all sorts of body types out there, and there's definitely a difference between all the skinny/thin/average/fat/obese types you see. Obvious differences. I know people translate "fat" into different things, but IMO excessive "fat" is something that is unhealthy, which you obviously are not.

You're at a healthy weight, and that's all that really matters. If your relatives can't deal with that, it's their problem, not yours.
