of course, i'd hate it if racism was aimed towards me, and would most likely harbour some ill feelings toward that one person.. but then again, everyone is racist to some degree, imho, so it would be pretty hypocritical to say 'i hate all racists'

Yes, every single person is prejudice to some degree whether or not they want to admit it or even realize it. We all prefer people who are more similar to us. Numerous experiments have been conducted on prejudice and people exhibit certain unintentional behaviors which clearly illustrate contemporary prejudice to the trained eye.
It is a natural reaction that may be influenced, but not necessarily created by surroundings.

P.S. Racism is NOT by any means created by man. There are supporting studies and evidence that proves that even animals (like mockingbirds, squirrels, and etc) prefer their own kind, or their own kin. They will feed babies who are closely related but neglect those who are not. That is just one example of non-human related "prejudice."

obviously if you use that as an excuse to justify your racism, then you're pretty messed up, but you can't deny that everyone is prejudiced to some extent

Let me get this straight:

If there was an explosion and an asian girl and a white girl were laying on the floor hurt, and I chose to treat the asian girl, I am racist because I'm exhibiting racial preference by treating the asian girl and not the white girl?

Just cause we're all prejudiced doesn't mean we're all racist.
Indeed there is prejudice in my actions, but it's not cause of race, and hence it's not racial prejudice.

Maybe I just think she's hotter.

EDIT: I don't deny that we're all prejudiced, but the fact that the person you quoted used PREJUDICE to support why we're all racist screams logical fallacy in my face.

EDIT2: I see where you're coming from, but prejudice is a very general term that encompasses various -ism's. Racism is a form of prejudice, so if you're racist then you're prejudiced, but if you're prejudiced that doesn't mean you're racist. If my situation involved an asian girl and a white guy, maybe I'm just sexist?

i didnt attack you. in fact i wasn't even talking to you. try calming down yourself and reading who that was directed to before getting defensive.

Also, i've already said it...you can be prejudiced without being a racist asswipe. racism and prejudice are not the same. while prejudice may play a large part in racism, racism is not always a deciding factor in prejudice.

EDIT: and yes your little 'racismprejudice' edit is better. i agree most if not all people are prejudice. sometimes it's not conscious, sometimes it is....but it's there. still doesn't make prejudice = racism though. I wish people would get that.

If you had said everyone is PREJUDICED to some degree in the first place this wouldn't have taken place.
A little stroll through wikipedia "prejudice" and "racism" articles already differentiates between the two.

Prejudice is very broad, racism is a particular type of prejudice based on RACE hence the term RACISM.
Sexism is also prejudice, but no one's going to say sexism = racism. No one's going to say class-ism is racism. No one's going to say ageism is racism. But they are all types of prejudice.

As far as the statement that everyone is racist to a certain degree, that is a very vague statement. To which degree now do we define racism? In my opinion i believe racism is taught and learned, and i believe bias is an innate personal characteristic which all of us posses.

We are all just a product of our social circumstances, and people who harbour hatred for anyone else are really only hurting themselves in the end.
