i go to the gym regularly. about 5-7 days a week, an hour each time.
first, i walk on the treadmill for two minutes on 3.8 speed to warm up.
then about 5.4-5.8 speed for three minutes to warm up.
then i increase it to 7.0-8.0 speed [because i read in an article that you'll be surprising your body by suddenly increasing the speed, thus your body will work harder.] do this for about 5 minutes.
go back down to about 6-7 speed.
increase, decrease. such for 20-30 minutes[ really depends on my mood. >_< haha]
THENN i do elipticles for about 20 minutes. i start at level 3, then by the end i'm up to level 10.
i do leg extensions and light weight machines [don't know what they're called O_O]
well that's my workout routine. sometimes i switch it up and do jumprope, bicycle and such.
buttttt i've been noticing my calves and thighs have become more muscular. it's not a gross muscular,,just more than before. am i running too much? what can i do to make sure i LOSE FAT,, [ i know that i'll gain muscle] but not bulk up as much?? please tell me if i'm doing something wrong >_<

an explosive exercise will bulk up your thighs. (jumping, etc)
also running on the treadmill is more likely to bulk up on muscle because you're the "floor" is moving for you.
if you want to keep running, it's better to just run outside. it gives less bulk because you're pushing off the earth. and elliptical is good in moderation, 20 min is good. just be careful, because can cause bulk as well.
btw is this all advice i get from my bf because he's this workout freak and im scared of bulking up.
i hate cardio though ... so i barely run either way lol

Haha I have somewhat muscular/bulky calves too
After two seasons of high school track. It doesn't look bad though, it actually makes me look fit and stronger :] I wouldn't worry about it too much

i've been starting with level 3 ever since i first went to the gym,, around 2008. but i just didn't feel like i was working out..so i started increasing the speed about 1-2 up for every 50 calories i do. hahaha >_< i'm not hardcore. that's probably why my calves are huge O_O

I think that running at one speed for a very long time will eventually "burn off muscle"? Because I notice that cross country runners usually have pretty skinny legs :3... I'm not certain though.

if you're trying to slim your legs, HIIT (high intensity interval training) is NOT for you.
you should be running at a slower pace for a long period of time without incline.
if you want me to explain the whole science behind it you can ask, but you can trust my word.
keep up the weight lifting though.

^ Yeah.....I agree!! Low intensity, long endurance creates lean muscle rather than big, bulky muscle. Lifting weights will create a little bit of muscle which will help build up your metabolism, thus allowing you to burn more fat.
Good luck!

that's because the treadmill does A LOT of the work for you. so if you want to get a real workout in, which should you choose?
