After a worldwide search, Jay Chou, the multi-hyphenate singer-actor and a star throughout Asia, has joined the cast of Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet in the iconic role of Kato, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures.

Gondry said, "Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog! When I filmed him next to Seth, they had such great chemistry, and I knew the movie will be great."

Chou added, "It's an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won't try to be Bruce Lee's Kato – I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it's a dream role, and I'm looking forward to the challenge."

The Green Hornet is scheduled for a July 9, 2010 release.

Sang-woo Kwone was rumored to play Kato, but I guess Jay beat him.

Congrats to Jay! He'll be working with actors like Seth Rogan, Camerian Diaz, Nicolas Cage, etc!

He was, but then he pulled out of both Directing and playing Kato due to idea differences.

Although I would have wanted KSW, I hope Jay Chou does job.

Whoa, what?

I'm not familiar with the Green Hornet's story and don't know who Kato is but Jay Chou in an American movie? That's pretty exciting. I am a huge Jay fan...but...does the role require him to speak English? I didn't think Jay's English was very good...anyway, congrats to him and I hope he does a good job acting. If you've seen his other acting roles, you'll know what I mean. Haha.

nooooo wayyy!!!!!! for some reason this just seems very new and fresh because a lot of famous korean actors/actresses have been breaking into the american scene but not many chinese ones.

I have more faith in Stephen Chow than Jay Chou when it comes to acting. So disappointed that he decided to drop out.

I love his music. And I love it when he is singing. Acting? Not so much. He doesn't convey emotions well. But hey, this is not a serious movie so I think he'll fare better here. And does the character Kato even speak?

How in the world...? He composes great songs but his acting isn't the greatest and he mumbles Mandarin, his native tongue! I'm skeptical about his English, hope he proves me wrong though...
