The title is pretty self-explanatory, but I'm just curious to know how you found the site, what drew you to it and what interests you about it now.

Please note, I'm not 100% sure that the title doesn't sound racist so I just want to make clear that don't intend it to be in any way segregational, demeaning or racial. I don't mean - "what the Hell you doing here?!"

Well I'm not korean, so I'm pretty much a foreigner as well.
I like how there are a lot of people, which means there will be many opinions to observe.

I'm also curious why you are curious about this.

isn't it the same as asking, "asians - what attracted YOU to soompi?"
because don't both asians & non asians have their ways of "how they found the site, what drew them to it and what interests them about it now."?

i understand how it might be quite rare for you to find a non-asian to like asian stuff.. but i think in general, "being attracted to soompi" is almost the same set of events.

I don't think it's rare for a non-Asian to like Asian stuff, but I thought it would be nice for them to provide an insight as to why they do.

I don't think it's the same at all really. It's quite natural to be interested and drawn to elements of your own culture, so it's far more interesting when people of other cultures do too.

Is there something wrong with my being curious? I personally thought it was an innocent question, but it seems that you all think otherwise unsure.gif

Hello~ ^^ Mm, I got attracted to Soompi when I had first learned about Kpop and Korean culture and all that. I was basically clueless about everything except that I liked the music. I was interested/fascinated/all that good stuff, so obviously I wanted to know more about everything and I came across this site and found just about everything I needed :] After that, I just ended up becoming "addicted." lol. It was so... convenient? Idk.

Most asians here are american or canadian or australian, so technically they're not into the asian culture either.
So it would be false to assume that because you're asian, you're more interested in the asian culture (or are able to better associate with it).

I don't get what's so bad about the OP's question.. o_O

She's just asking non-Asians what is it about Soompi that made them want to join the forum. Afterall, it was a "K-pop for the masses" kind of thing at first (not saying that everyone who joins has to listen to Korean music). There's more of an Asian population on Soompi realistically. I'm curious as to what attracted them to Soompi too! =)

ah right right. my bad.
what i meant to say is -- the americans/canadians/etc who are asian/non-asian, might have followed similar events (ie, youtube, friend, whatever) on what attracted them to soompi, kpop, etc.

i wasn't referring to the asians living in asian country.

Thank you! To be honest I'm a little confused at the backlash, and if it's true that race-related topics were not allowed ... well, I guess it'll get removed.

I wasn't aware of this and I apologise in full.

But, I'm not going to apologise for my question because no one has explained why it's remotely offensive.

hybrid_marionette: I don't feel bad, as I haven't done anything to feel bad about. I'm confused, that's all.
Also if you want to ask people questions, you should probably try not to come off as patronising first smile.gif

hallo everyone! smile.gif

I'm attracted to the fashion and health sections. As I'm currently staying in Korea, soompi helps to understand the Korean culture smile.gif Pictures help, too! Now, I know who's hot and what's in here smile.gif

I'm European, by the way.

Since traveling to Japan and Korea I wanted to keep up with the my dramas, music, and anything Se7en, one of my Asian friend told me about this site and many more, I like because of the curious questions asked and one can voice their opinions, thou sometimes you come upon those who hate when you say anything negative of Asians, so you are bantered or accused of being that ugly word.

On the whole its quite fun...

I came across this site after watching some korean shows on Youtube that had been subtitled by someone from Soompi. I've been interested in different cultures and languages for a while, so I decided to join the forums. Unfortunately, I haven't had much free time to visit the site as much as I did when I first discovered it, but I still log in from time to time, this being one of those times.

I wanted to learn more about DBSK, Rain, and Se7en and everytime I put their names into search engines something from soompi always popped up, so I joined (after trying for 2 years to figure out how to. That front page was so confusing lol).

Hm... After I watched my first drama ("Goong") I became really interested in korean dramas and culture. And so one day searching the internet I found Soompi. And I stayed. smile.gif I got so interested that I started to study Korean philology at university. smile.gif I started a year ago and there is still a long way to go XD. Anyway that's how I got here. smile.gif

After I first heard about K-pop I didn't really talk to anyone about it for ages - I just watched YouTube videos. Then I joined a few small forums for individual K-pop bands. Someone on one of these forums suggested I joined Soompi because I'm not really a fan of one K-pop band but all of them (I'd already heard of Soompi before this but never joined because I thought it was too big XP)..so here was a place I could keep up with all the news etc. Now I love Soompi because it's an easy way for me to keep up with the news of my favourite bands and singers and just to hear opinions of people with similar interests to me.
